I know it sounds crazy and a little obnoxious, but I've had some really good friendships come from it. My husband and a couple other people found a tank in DF, he was on our server, now we have been playing together since the beginning of 2.0. A lot of it comes down to just talking to strangers, and continuing to talk to them. Even if you just start by waving at them every time you see them.
