A common mistake that alot of people do is expect that other players will come to them. Unless you are a famous or infamous player, odds are people will just walk by, instead of talk with you. This is why you need to take the first step, talk with people. Alot of my friends are people with whom I just start talking, we talked, we added each other to our friendlist and then we started hanging out toghter.

My advice, join a FC and be active when it comes to being social with others. Your first time will not be perfect and for some it might be scary taking the first step, but if you are persistent, you will find new friends.
