Why are you still playing this game?

Hello, this isn\\'t a troll thread or anything and I know some people are gonna "come at me", but as the title says, why are you still playing this game? There\\'s absolutely no challenging content. Everything is handed out to you. Further more any challenging content is just a harder version of existing content. There\\'s nothing to strive for. Your gearing up to clear what content exactly? The next patch cycles content where crafted gear makes previous bis irrelevant? I\\'ve been playing since 2.2 but now that I\\'m not raiding anymore I don\\'t know how people are still playing. What\\'s the motivation? What are you doing that actually matters? (In a video game sense). Btw before I get the "because it\\'s fun" response. Yea I know it\\'s fun the first time, and I\\'m all for grinding to get something, but doing the same over and over again without any meaningful rewards or at least a sense of accomplishment is no bueno.

Part of me still plays for the escape from reality, part of me plays for the completionist in me, part to stay in touch with the few friends I have, and part to try and make new friends.

I dont endgame - no enjoyment in that what so ever.
What i do enjoy however...

- Crafting
- Gathering
- Decorating my houses (owner of FC and have personal house)
- Gardening
- See my gil go up every day
- Do occational 24 man / Expert when i get bored of crafting all day
- Level up alts (enjoy replaying MSQ)

I've played since 1.0 and I don't see myself quiting anytime soon.

Oh...and part of me plays to do all the glamours...just need the armoury space to hold it all....

I guess my reasons from largest to smallest would be...

1.) Friends won't play anything else, and I like my friends. Seriously, I've tried to get them to move over to Blade and Soul and WoW and they're just stuck to this game for whatever reason. I've quit forcing the issue for the most part.

2.) I enjoy XIV enough when it's not the only game I play. This is the big kicker - when I'm not married to the game and feeling like I constantly "have" to be playing it I tend to enjoy the time I DO spend playing it a lot more. I log in, level some jobs, raid some nights and do maps/Rabanastre other nights. Screw expert, I don't care if I cap tomes weekly. Once I started thinking of XIV in bits and pieces I started to figure it's not so bad. (If my friends had a change of heart and wanted to move to BNS or WoW though I'd be gone. Personal preference.)

3.) The story is well-done enough to at least ensure I run a sub long enough to play through it all.

4.) Housing is so scarce that it keeps a stranglehold on my subscription anyway, so I might as well actually get some use out of my $15 or whatever and play.



Those are my biggest reasons, I think.

Honestly, I disagree on no challenging content but that's just me. slammed my head into savage for once and I've found myself enjoying it immensely. Been giving my self the challenge of all 70 classes, clearing savage and at least touching unending coil. Getting to 200 on potd(no I haven't done that yet...), and just having fun with my friends in the game. While balmung is still locked i got friends on other worlds that I have alts on that I play with as well

You seem to assume everyone still playing is doing endgame stuff? It is very rare that I even reach any endgame content before it is pseudo-obsolete. And that is just fine with me.
I play because I enjoy the story and because it is fun. I don't do the same thing over and over, that would be silly.

As for "no challenging content", I find plenty of it challenging, but perhaps that is just me.

Addiction mostly. It's fun for me also, been playing this for ages. I mostly play alone, since I moved to Balmung I don't have many friends so... well, I love raids, I love housing, I love doing a bit of everything to be honest.
