Thread: Nvidia Optimus and new 2.0 engine

Will the new engine coming with v2.0 support the Nvidia Optimus technology? I've been looking for a new laptop, and almost bought one, until I discovered FFXIV had issues with the tech.

My understanding of it is, while currently you can run FFXIV on a laptop with Optimus, it's only a matter of time until something causes the GPU's to quickly swap over, thus crashing the game (the missing DirectX device error is another topic of its own...). I've heard people say they last 5 minutes, and it's extremely frequent, to playing for upwards of a few hours.

If a rep/mod could look for an answer, much appreciated.

Well the game works perfectly fine on laptops with ATI xD
But if you don't like them the only chance is for SE to fix the bad Dx9 code. I doubt they will give information on that this early.

I'm running this game on a sager np5165. Which is 555m optimus. I had no problems at all.

Well that's really your problem, it's like saying you want to go faster than a bicycle but hate motorcycles, kind of pointless to complain about a problem if you don't want to even consider the easiest solution.

I've considered the "easiest solution". Problem is, the casing on it sucks. Other than that, I have not seen a single laptop with a decent ATI mobile card in it at the 15.6" size ( I won't go above this ). And Nvidia is just a preference, based on past experiences.
