I could try stuff out on my plot like I can try on gear for my toon. I’m sick of wasting Gil on furnishings that look like yard debris. At least let me see what the full size things look like!!
Rant over. That is all.

ff14housing is a fantastic tool, but it only helps so much. You can see what most furnishings look like, but you can't see what they look like in your house, specifically.
I thought a Sephirot Tree would look good in my yard, but once I got it in there, I could see that it clashed horribly. Thankfully, I was able to borrow a friend's Sephirot Tree to test it, but if I hadn't been able to do that I may have blown millions of gil (or wasted countless hours farming) to end up with something useless to me.
Unfortunately, I seriously doubt they'll ever add a Try On feature for furnishings. My best suggestion would be to take an image from ff14housing and Paint/Photoshop it into a screenshot of your house. Nothing is going to work as well as actually putting the real furnishing down in your house, but at least it might give you a better idea if you should waste your time/gil.
The other, not super great, alternative is to buy the furnishing, but don't ever actually put it down (you can turn off the UI to see what it looks like without the orange glow around it). If you don't like it, it won't be bound, so you can still re-sell it. The downsides are that you could lose money if the price of the furnishing goes down, and you can't turn the furnishing without putting it down and binding it.
you can still hover an item in any area before actually placing it to get some idea in your house too.
and with interior things like lights/wallpaper/flooring. you can place it in the menu without confirming to sample it across your rooms to see if it works. or to find the right combination for these together

I always kind of hoped for something similar to the sims where you can see all the items in game and preview them in that fashion. Would be really nice.... ;__;
But I know, I know. inb4 "If you want the Sims, go play the Sims!" u__u'
「Life is such a fragile thing…」
I’ve done the whole, don’t actually put it down to see what it looks like, but then I have to eat the taxes on the item. Still a gil loss because if I do put it back up on the mb and try to recoup my loss, it’ll never sell.
I’ll try that website that was linked above. Might not help to see how an item would go with my decor, but it’s a start. Thanks.![]()
To take this a step further, during the placement process you can hid the HUD which will make the placement overlay disappear, thus giving you a clean view of how the item will appear.you can still hover an item in any area before actually placing it to get some idea in your house too.

I google items before I buy. Always pictures of stuff around.
