It doesn't need a nerf, but they really need to stop doing 8 man raid fights that seem to have a short shelf life when relevant, and have tons of incentive to wait for overgearing. Thordan had the same issue. There's too many perverse incentives with hard content. If all you want is a weapon for glamour and a mount, it's actually easier to do when the fight is irrelevant, which makes it harder for people to do like the OP.
