An open letter from a Balmung player

No matter how much I get told that I should leave my server, I just don’t want to. People seem to forget that I love my community, and that I’m just not willing to leave, not even at the expense of better server stability.

I started a wonderful Free Company, and a lizard linkshell. Most of my days I talk to my dear friends for at least a small length of time. Not only are these people my members, but they are also my neighbors. I run into them all the time outside my apartment, and it just wouldn’t be the same without them.

Even if we all moved, it still wouldn’t be the same. No I don’t know all Balmung players, but I like the feeling of the crowds. It makes the world feel alive. I belong here.

You’re asking me to leave the place I call home in XIV, and I just can’t do that.

I'm not asking you to leave. I honestly really don't care much where you or your FC/LS/friends play. You are more than welcome to stay on Balmung, as far as I am concerned. What does get really, really old is when people whine about getting it unlocked. Unlocking the server has nothing to do with enjoying/not wanting to leave the community you have, unlocking the server has everything to do with ballooning an already overcrowded server up to a population size that crashes the entire data center (again.)

As far as I'm aware, Balmung has only crashed Aether on one occasion, and that was during Heavensward's Early Access. Stormblood's troubles were a combination of all servers just not prepared to handle the EA traffic.

It's great you have your community, and cases like yours are why it's so hard for so many of us to just up and leave, and why hopefully they won't fracture our community forcefully any time soon. But like people said - given that so far they're not doing that, what's exactly the point of this...?
