Fieldcraft Demimateria III ?!?

Where does this come from? I've teamed up with some FC-mates so we can craft our i320 crafting and gathering sets, and this item eludes me. Someone suggested maybe it was from desynth, but most of the stuff I've read here indicates leveling desynth isn't useful and it doesn't seem like that would be the conclusion if all the new gear required something only obtainable through desynth. Any pointers/tips/advice welcome. Thanks!

The items he exchanges for FCIII take FCIII to make. HQ can be exchanged for tools or gear but if you botch your synth and get NQ, those items can be traded so you get half your FCIIIs back. It is not possible to get FCIII this way.

Sorry OP, but desynthing or the MB are your only options.

Yeah, I'd gotten that from some earlier responses. Thanks for the very clear write-up, though. Hopefully that'll serve as a guide to future crafters. Since making that post, I went out and just ground desynth from 0 to 98 crafting stuff and desynthing it all. Now I just buy shoes in Ul'duah and play the desynth lotto to get my FC-III's.

From my understanding the items he trades them for requires 2 Fieldcraft Demimateria III to get one so not really an option. I imagined it was to recuperate the cost back in ARR in case you did not get the HQ version.

Leatherworker Desynth - Best Man's Gaiters - 6k in Uldah is another option if you aren't doing trade in items for Talan.

Thanks for that. However, looking at the trade-ins for Talan for Demimateria (https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/T...s%20Miscellany), I don't see recipes for the items he wants. Are those from the Master I/II books or maybe the "Master Craftsmen: Demimateria" books (https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/T...ting%20Tomes)? If it's the master demimateria books, that requires leveling desynth enough to get the rank I demimateria to trade for the books to learn to make the items to trade for the rank III demimateria?

The recipes are from the Master I books, but since the items in question typically require FC3 demimateria to craft in the first place they are a somewhat suboptimal way of acquiring FC3 demimateria.
(You need HQ items for the Master II books, but only NQ items for the FC3 demimateria - so it looks like a way to recover at least a little of the materials for failed attempts at HQ.)
