Goodbye to a world

Hello all!

My character's name is Tsundere Imouto and I've been a summoner main since gordias. Raiding has been my focus, but along the way I've met and connected with a lot of great friends and acquaintances. This is a bittersweet post to write, but I am writing it for those people.

Some of you may know, but my time here is up. I've decided to move on and refocus my life onto other things. For a long time, applying myself to raiding in FFXIV made me very happy, and the continuous struggle to improve and get better was intensely gratifying to me. FFXIV has taught me practically that if I apply myself to something, I can surprise myself with the results I get. I am not quitting because I'm burnt out, or because I dislike the content in the game. I'm quitting for one central reason alone: spending the majority of my time and effort to improve in this game feels hollow and empty to me. The more work I put in to improve, the more I loathe using that time on the game instead of something constructive and productive.

I am an amateur game designer myself, and I seek to shift my ambition to that instead. It's difficult and confusing for someone who loves games so deeply to have to decide something like this, but I don't believe I am well suited to moderation. I hope to obsessively fuel my passions as deeply as I have obsessively driven to the top of raiding in this game.

I will miss you. Please stay welcoming to new people, and never let the game get in between you and someone else. Take it from someone who slaved over DPS and raiding and numbers: the value in this game are in the opportunities for togetherness. Be kind to one another, and use this game as a weapon against the cynicism that erects walls between us.
