I finally just want SE to make the next move because I have invested too much into Balmung to myself willingly move with the only incentives offered which is a laugh at most when you have a property and multiple airships/legacy FC.
The solution was found and implemented and it's working: Balmung no longer grows and instead other servers get to grow. There will be no next move by SE because nothing is wrong anymore. Balmungians got their houses, their big server, their friends and FCs and of course the rp. Not many people are leaving anymore, we get it... but then where exactly is the issue? Just stay there and enjoy the server as it is.

SE did cause this problem and people trying to put all the blame on the player base of Balmung is a bit immature.
People blame SE for letting it get this far, but then turn around and say it's a bad thing that more people are unable to join the server. Quite a contrast between those viewpoints. Removing the option to join Balmung's rp community is precisely what needed to happen in order for the population to stay controlled. It's a good thing.

Except for the few people you will see wanting the server to grow. I am sure some people on Balmung want server to be even smaller. Also opening it anytime before the holiday sale season when this game or bundle might be on sale for a few bucks somewhere wouldn't help. A quick search of 14 servers probably brings Balmung up repeatedly since it is the most talked about.

I vote since Balmungers are special snowflakes we get are own sticky. All future threads that relate to balmung get dumped into the sticky. Which does not include glamour. We did not start the bunny ear thread We may have just endorsed it.

Balmung is closed forever, we just need to get used to that or just move on I suppose but nobody wants to do that really including myself.

I'd be happy with SE splitting Balmung if it meant that they allowed the segment of the population who has registered housing to stay on one of the servers to maintain possession of their homes. Imo this would be helpful, and allow FCs and people who couldn't get personal houses a chance to grab housing, and while it would fracture the community even more, it would allow for new blood to jump in. I think the incentives for jumping off of the server would have to be better than the current incentives, but I think it could work (this applies to all of the high pop servers with transfer incentives tbh).

Right now the server does feel "dead" in a sense, due to the lack of new blood.

People are bringing up its status as the "unofficial RP server" as the problem. Honestly if this is a big part of the population problem, then it could be helped by SE actually giving specific servers official RP designation. Players would not have to rely on word-of-mouth when planning what server to choose, and instead could easily identify them on their own.

There's a lot of hate in this thread for the OP and others expressing their dissatisfaction with the current situation, and people who are coming at them like they don't know why the server was locked in the first place. My general feeling from speaking to people on the server about the lock, and transfer incentives is that people are/were stressed by the population issues. It's always a problem during patch cycles, and especially expansion launches, we're all aware of the issue. The problem we have, in general, is that this current solution is not really working, and that it presents another set of problems for the players. While I don't think it's SE's intention, players are feeling punished for playing the game on the server that they've always been on, with friends that they've had for years, and some of us would like an alternative to the "get out or deal with it" solution that's currently in place.

I don't think any solution will be perfect, and nothing will make everyone happy, but I'm sure that there are other ways that Balmung's (and the other high pop servers!) overpopulation can be remedied.

Exactly! Also it's great that things are going well for you there.

I already said exactly what the issue is. The issue is the server has been locked down long enough and turn around to say its a bad thing and blame SE for causing the problem? It makes sense in the context of things. SE limited creation for a year before this total lock down but yet still allowed paid transfers thus purposely causing the problem to grow in the name of 18 bucks per transfer. Its an artificially created problem they put on themselves. The real reason is why are they limiting themselves stating resources are limited when there is already an architecture in place to allow linkking via the instance part of the game. At one time they stated they was unable to allow cross realm party creation but that has finally become a reality.

There are methods of inter linking this game together and even a better way would be to allow players to move around from server to server at will with caveats of not letting you gain any rewards in the world killing of hunts/messageboard or working with trade skills of any time. There are many many ways to handle this situation but they choose the easiest way which is to create a one button to fit scenario with minimal involvement til it solves itself....

Let's also mention how some of us might have friends who want to get in the game and they can't pick the game up because they can't join the server of the friend that's recruiting them.

Square Enix already screwed them with how bad housing already is, but now Square Enix is telling them to simply jump ship and go through it all again?
I don't think there are enough houses on any server to equal enough population (at 1 person per house) to count as a big server.

Before the lock down Coeurl was a pretty small server and not many people running around doing stuff. Since the lock down many transferred and it's WAY more active. People talk more and are around always willing to help other players out.

If you guys want the server unlocked you need to get people to transfer out; and those that were willing to do so have done so and it wasn't enough people for Square to want to reopen the server.
