Thinking of skipping 7th Astral Quests

I’m thinking of skipping the 7th astral quests. I’ve completed the main scenario. I seem to have way over powered my character as I’m already level 60. These quests seem pointless and a waste as I want to get on with unlocking more of my black mage abilities and Ishgard for level 260 tombstone gear. Would I be missing anything good in the quests?

Some quests have aether currents locked behind them so I'd recommend doing those if nothing else. You'll recognize them because their quest icon is blue and has a + mark on it. Furthermore, there's always one quest-line that tells the story of the location it's in - you'll know it because it'll have an image in the quest window when you talk to the NPC. Other than that, I'd say save them for when you want to level alt jobs.

EDIT : wait you're in ARR still, aren't you? So ignore that part about the aether currents. Still, the ones with the + mark are worth looking into as they unlock new game modes and dungeons and such.

If you're already level 60, no, not really missing much. Couple dungeons/trials to unlock, I guess.

Depends on what you're after in game. If you want to be involved in the story, keep going. If you just want to get to better gear and skills so you can progress towards better gear and skills, go ahead and boost as much as you can?

You will miss a lot of story and gameplay. You will miss very little as regards gear and leveling.
It all depends on what you deem important.

Personally I find the Post-Moogle quests to be one of the best parts of the game, yet all you really get from it is some lore and background information on some aspects of the world.
That happens to interest me, while some others would find it pointless.

Yeah I’m in ARR, I’ve gone all the way through main scenarios and Ultima but I’m debating on skipping the 7th astral straight to heavensward. The 7th astrals seem tedious and I can’t get further black mage abilities till they’re finished. There seems to be no xp to be had either as the only give 4800xp per quest.

To clarify if I skip I will still get all the dungeons, primals, etc in my duty finder right? They won’t be lost will they?

You can still go back and do all of the side quests and optional primals. You just wont have the side dungeons unlocked. Its totally optional and you can continue on and run those on a different job if you want at a later time.

They will not be lost, nor will you have access to them. They will still be there, with their outdated quests, waiting for you to pick them up.

As a rule of thumb, there are three quest icons. The small, yellow circle, the blue circle and the "sun".

Sun is for main story quests and you absolutely need to do them in order to progress. Almost everything is locked behind them, and as such, they do unlock stuff as you do them. Can't really dodge doing em as a result.

Blue markers are for unlocking new functions (not per quest, but per quest line), be it skills (job quests), new crafting abilities (desynthesis, materia adding and so on) or new dungeons that are not part of the storyline, beast tribes etc. Except for the moogles beast tribe, which is behind a long series of normal quests, none of them that I know of require you to make standard quests, but I may be wrong.

Standard quest markers are purely for story, sometimes offering additional progression gear or consumables. They don't unlock anything and are not needed for unlocking anything (with the exception of moogle beast tribe) to my knowledge.

In any case, there is no such a thing as a "point of no return". All the quests you didn't do yet are available until you do them. Once you level everything, finish the main story quest, get bored with dungeons etc, you can go ahead and start doing lvl1 quests if you so deem fit. Nothing is stopping you, even if you won't get anything out of it.

the only thing I can see this impacting is your ability to use of some of the Duty Roulettes. If you don't care about that stuff, you can skip them and return later when leveling another class.
