I will be quite honest with you.

I am an experienced player who has been playing FFXIV since the alpha of version 1.0. Suffice to say I know a lot about the game.

But whenever new content comes out and I go to challenge it, no matter what role I take on, I will always... ALWAYS announce my first time experience in chat. This is a personal rule I make to myself because if I mess up due to a failed mechanic from not being familiar with it, I try not to inconvenience the rest of my group with agitation.

Now, I know that different people have different personalities and that some may not be more vocal then others, I get that and I understand that. But even as a "mentor," which we get a lot of flak for even being for some reason, I can't stress this enough that if you do not seek help, you will not receive it.

Some people like to go into a one of these raids blind to fully experience the content first hand. I also understand this, but it would be still wise to the rest of the party to indicate so at the beginning of the raid so that the party understands that there may be a struggle.

People would be far less impatient if one were to simply communicate.

Not only as a mentor, but as another fellow player enjoying the world of Eorzea, I love helping newer players with content. But if you play a critical role as a tank and a healer, and the tank loses aggro to mobs which kill the healers, or the healers can't dodge aoes which in turn wipes the group because of lack of either, it gets frustrating to everyone.

Especially since you never stated you were new. If you don't say anything, people will expect you know a fight. So if you keep wiping, people turn toxic, while if the user had at least said something prior, the resulting reaction wouldn't be the same (in most cases.)

I want to quote a lyric, which I know you all are pretty familiar with...

To all of my children in whom Life flows abundant...
To all of my children to whom Death hath passed his judgement...
The soul yearns for honor, and the flesh the hereafter...
Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after...

"Answers" - by Nobuo Uematsu, arranged by Tsutomu Narita, with lyrics by Yaeko Sato and Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, and performed by American musician, Susan Calloway.
I am not glorifying the mentor status, we get a lot of flak for people abusing the Novice Network as general chat with spoilers and nonsense talk, but I just want to make something clear...

Communicate with your party, don't be silent. Please inform your parties of any concerns, even if it's as little as "I'm new." People will respect and tolerate you far far more.

Thanks for reading my post.
