When that starts happening, that's when you can honestly consider it a Beta especially if we're going to "feel" the transition lol.For that should be after April looking at the 2.0 roadmap since 2.0 system isn't even ready up until April when it finally starts going through software check phase. Now with this stuff it wont even allow porting our current data into 2.0 till they start that in May so it will really be beta testing with new character and all that w

And while I sense some sarcasm here the thing is, we are "testing" things as they are released prior to being released in full to the public during 2.0 launch.Beta+story huh? Where's the Crystal Tower then? Shouldn't we be beta testing that before release? You know, like what betas are for?
Where's my Chocobo battle buddy? Something else slated for 2.0, why aren't we testing that atm? I mean, since version 1.x is a beta after all we should be testing the 2.0 client on the 2.0 servers right now.
If you look at it from the stand point that we said, "Hey guys? You're missing this this and this and take out this and this and tweak this and that." and they are doing those things, which is what happens with testing. Also, we WILL test 2.0 for the most part. Whether they tell us straight up we are or not is on SE.
I just had a quick thought that, could you imagine after all this work if we AREN'T in someway helping "test" this stuff and they launch 2.0 and it has as many flaws as the original release.... oh man, what a f*ck up THAT would be.
And technically any of the above items you mentioned, we most likely will in one way or another give our feedback on prior to release.
Beta was loong gone... this is the gamma test phase.![]()
No, none of those were betas. None of those games were rebuilding new servers, a new game engine, and fiddling with mechanics that are usually decided in pre-production either.how is it that people still post this crap 3 patches after its been stated?
so weve been at 50% for half a year now i take it?
the game isnt a beta
was wow pre cataclysm a cataclysm beta
was it a wrath beta before that
was it a crusafes beta before that
was 11 a promathia beta before cop came out?
people dont even have a concept of what a real beta is anymore because the market has been really dumb with them lately and making them glorified demos to attract sales before a game launches(which means they werent even betas at all)
it sure as hell felt like they were redoing the game every time, since you go practicaly god mode when they implement the changes that are meant for the expansion months ahead of time there....
so yes, it is the exact same thing, people just dont want to see it for what it really is
negativity breeds more negativity, and some people here live off it cuz its all they know cuz their lives suck and they want everyone else to feel bad too

I just emailed this thread to all of my friends to show them how retarded the FFXIV boards are.
This is a paid beta. It is what it is.
When you say prequel, the only thing that I can think of is the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and how that turned out...but...it is a paid beta.
the game might have content and working systems, but the game is not at its 100% completion...
by definition, it is a beta.
The devs are figuring out/working on how the game should be. we the community give feedback about it and then the developers use the feedback to influence their final desitions.
if you'd rather not call it a beta call it a prequel then
good day
And yes, that's a BAD thing.

Seriously, it's a silly thing to argue about at this point. SE has made their decisions, no going back now.
Some feel that this period is basically nothing but a big paid beta test and it's outrageous to be asked for a subscription fee. Can't blame you. I feel the same way.
Some enjoy the game and are excited enough to pay to get a front row seat to world-changing events. For those of you new to this sort of thing, it is pretty neat. For those of us who have been around the block, it's World of Warcraft Cataclysm all over again. They do a world event every expansion. Been there, done that. More than once.
Doesn't matter what you call it, it's all about your point of view.
Continue.
