Stop calling it a beta

For all those calling it a beta, what part of 2.0 are we beta testing exactly?

Battle mechanics, stat effects, class actions, jobs in 1.21, the action house/market wards hybrid situation, self combos. Everything they've been adding and will add in 1.21-1.23 won't come to full realization until 2.0.

That's why the game has changed so drastically with each patch.

And again, people aren't literally calling it a beta, they're just being smartaleks because of how easily this all can be percieved as beta.

Personally, given what SE currently is working on. I'd call it Alpha.

You see the microbar that was in 2.0 screenshot and now introduced into 1.20, you're testing that. All the skill changes you've seen, you're testing those. In 1.21 you'll be testing Jobs which is in 2.0.

I count it as a Beta because its not "complete" to me, with so many overhauls and scrapping of so much, most games dont do this, they just tweak or bug fix, but not complete overhauls (eg: SWTOR lol)

No matter what the community thinks or considers, this game is not a beta. It is now a retail game, that is 100% as complete as other games. It will be upgraded later yes, but all MMO's are continually upgraded. The game developers believe it deserves to be paid for, if you do too, then pay. If not, then don't.

Don't expect extra compensation because you are somehow "altruistic" enough to pay for an incomplete game, because you are not. At this point its just like any other. They are providing you a service, you pay for it. It's selfish to think you deserve an extra prize greater than what you would get with a different game.

Seriously do you storm into gamestop and claim that because you didn't like the game you bought you want a free strategy guide or something?

You're sort of right, it probably shouldn't be referred to as a beta; maybe alpha. Alpha tests undergo major revisions to core systems, just like FFXIV does. The 2.0 "free trial PC period" that just happens to overlap with the "PS3 beta", can't imagine why they decided to call that a "free trial period," perhaps not to piss off people who would take offense to it actually being called a beta.

at least when 2.0 comes out we can all smile and say "The 2.0 beta was nothing like this game is now (maybe)".

That, in my opinion was one of the worst things Yoshida could have said. Really.

I personally feel that the game is at "just launched" level in terms of quality and content. Of course, the fact that many (or all) of us already have one or multiple classes capped doesn't help.

This is basically one of the things I was going for. People say the game is incomplete just because it doesn't have things they want. That's not really how games work. Is the new Zelda game incomplete because it doesn't have voice acting? No. It's just something that's not in the game.

As of billing commencement, the developers consider the game to be at 100% retail. That's a fact, otherwise they wouldn't have commenced billing. The stuff being added after this would be akin to normal MMO patch additions, with 2.0 being similar to an expansion or how WoW upgraded its graphic system a few years ago.

nope calling it incomplete because for the most part, a lot of the game is still broken/not finished, or just plain does not work right.
