Mmmm....this thread re-emerges... I think we can agree on two points:

1) Technically speaking, the game is not in Beta because the beta phase is over.
2) The whole argument is based on opinion.

I think you need to familiarize yourself with the definition of an Alpha stage.

The first stage, called alpha testing, is often performed only by users within the organization developing the software. The second stage, called beta testing , generally involves a limited number of external users.

so beings that beta is planned for almost a year from now and they are still adding key feature that makes this alpha, pretty easy to understand.

Syntaxlies, you forgot "Open Beta" which I think is where FFXIV is in.... A paid open beta though

Open betas are from a larger group to the general public and anyone interested. The testers report any bugs that they find, and sometimes suggest additional features they think should be available in the final version.
