Its not impossible, taking only the idea of sky, you need to complete a hard chain of quest with cutscenes and of course with the need to be done in group after doing all those quest completed you get a good story and the chance to kill 10 HNM's or gods whatever, but theres not only that you need to do some open dungeons in the same area to farm keys easy to drop and good for exp parties, then after getting those keys you can get your chances to fight those HNM's that drops the best gear available with a good drop rate but hard to kill.

I would call that good content and long lasting if they make the gear good enough, and make things that if they release a new patch some of the last gear will be still good enough vs new gear released, like Rajas ring, peackock charm, the accuracy pointy hat, etc in FFXI, actually when i read for the first time about materia i tought they were adding somethig like WoW where certain piece could hold a certain number of materias without risk, that could help a lot to balance rare/ex gear with crafted gear theres gonna be people bitching about everything they put in the game all the time.

Also something like limbus would be really cool.

Oh this, absolutley! See, I'm hoping they are going to do this for the AF armor (or job specific w/e they wanna call it) and plans to do this for all of them in the future. From day 1 of me playing, I've always thought that the gear needed to have some different effects aside from STR/DEX, etc.

*Ideas for Job Specific Armor (I'll do PUG since its my favorite)
-Head Piece: PIE+10, Enhanced Second Wind Effect. (This meaning something like... Reduce recast by 10 seconds)
    -Body Piece: STR+8,DEX+8. Evasion +10. "Auto-Refresh Effect" (This meaning 1mp a tick)
-Arm Piece: Attack+10, Accuracy +10, Critical Hit Damage+10, Crit Rate+10
-Leg Piece: DEX+6, PIE+6. Evasion +15. Augment "Featherfoot". (This doing something like... granting 2 "evades" on a duration instead of one. Let me evasion tank, plzkthx.)
    -Foot Piece: STR+2, DEX+2, PIE+2. Kick Attack Damage +35.

    SET BONUS: Increase Attack Speed

*Arm piece could also maybe do something like enhancing Sucker Punch so it doesn't suck... Maybe ^^

(Anyway, this are obviously my ideas for the AF armor, but I would absolutley LOVE to see them be this nice. In fact, copy this and add it to PUG's AF set exactly. Thanks2u SE <3)
---> This is also considering that this armor is not easy to get. I am assuming they come from the two new raids, although I could be proven wrong but I hope not. And I hope for dynamis-like drop rates.)

    They've done this some what, but I'd like to see it expand as you said to abilities and actions for classes too. And Set bonus would be amazing. I'd even say add em to previously existing sets. Like... maybe Sipahi could add more evasion and speed up attack rate slightly... (I sooooo want that shirt to be useful for something. PLEASE SE, please ;

...Even go back and do this to Harlequins/Templars/etc. Make old content useful, plzkthx

I would be for them updating old equipment to make them useful once more.

It will always be a tug of war between crafters and people like me who expect U/U stuff that drops from endgame type events to be best-in-slot. But currently some of the U/U stuff is much harder to get and crap compared to crafted gear...

this right here lol i been begging for something like sky and sea since launch and daydreaming of it since a year prior to launch on these forums. large scale full linkshell pve, with lots of bosses, mini bosses, mobs, farming and yummy gear worth a squat taking the time to get.

when crystal towers comes out and it needs to be pretty soon after 2.0, i would say is when ffxiv is officially on the boards for being a great mmo or is fully dead to me.

but on the balance to materia/craft gear and dungeon stuff, they can just make gear half and half, some craft and some dungeon. might be to late or something but ..or just make all materia worth having dungeons only and give them timers for repeatability. or completly make a system where u can meld both a crafted gear and a dungeon gear into one slot lol. anything. crafting isn't the all be game, it's a means for most to just make gils to buy stuff they want. ...and that shouldn't include the best gears or even close to it.

also dungeons need to last long time or you literally need like so many of them that it takes you forever to do them, and then add hard modes to all of them at end. but this type of endgame isn't anywhere near as great as ffxi style endgame. swtor has the above mentioned, you do all the endgame technically on easy mode all the way up to max level then you do them on hardest mode, but there is tons and tons and tons of them ...not 4........... not 1 out every few months...... though tons of players already maxed out there gears in that game already even threw pug groups ...so this isn't the type of gameplay ffxiv should have. i can't see myself playing swtor for more then 6months b4 i want to blow my brains out.

ffxi gameplay i will say and say again ...best options for this game. sky, sea, limbus, enerjah type stuff ..not exact same obviously but take the soul of what those give. how many players in ffxi did salvage or nyzle isle with there linkshelll? probably almost none of you, and those who say they did it probably means you were just the one group or you joined that linkshell after you joined salvage. 8man stuff is just that, 8man static stuff, it's not linkshell stuff that you just do with your group like it's being treated like now. it's lol garbage you get 8men together for.

back on topic and the op, most people are done with most those things you dated day by day, the schedule is probably more like a month of ifrit ...done, a month of moogle ...done ..theres no reason to keep doing it nor reasons to really go back to them. some might call it a carrot stick or whatever but ffxi did it right.

Very good topic and I am glad that this subject has been brought up. I have not hit lvl 50 yet, but all I ever hear about my linkshell doing is Ifrit and Moogle. A few have received the weapons that they want and now talk about how "bored" they are. The end game content seems to be seriously lacking and I hope something fun is implemented before I hit 50 or I may end up joining the list of dissatisfied people posting here.

I started 15 days ago (give or take, bought during the holiday sale) and had no problem getting to cap. Behests are wonderful for this, even when you run out of leves. Didn't party until I hit level 42.

Of course, if you decide to re-roll on Fabul, I'm always willing to help, for what it's worth.

Now, as far as the main topic is concerned, I think that with MMO content, variety is everything.

WoW has tons of 'content'. Enough raids and instances to make your eyes bleed. You also have to do these instances and raids over and over and over to get the gear you need.

This is currently the 'success' formula for MMO's, yet WoW is currently, last I checked, bleeding subscribers.

I think that Square is taking a step in the right direction with player housing. Giving players flexibility to make the world their own is a far different approach than Blizzards linear 'Kill, Quest, Instance, Raid' path.

I still largely consider Ultima Online to be the finest MMO in the genre, because there were so many different things you could do. So many options. You could craft furniture, open a shop in your house, build a castle or a tower. On custom servers you could kill other players, and then mount their heads as trophies in your house. Alternatively you could also eat their heads while the players ghost watched in horror.

Whatever square provides for 'content' I hope that it will be something flexible enough that I'm not forced into doing the same thing over and over for months. Timesinks are not mandatory of the genre, regardless of the current trend.
