Because it is fun regardless? Content is about having fun. Clearing is a goal, one that may never be reached while it is still relevant, but it is a goal regardless. Challenging myself to the goal, or watching someone else try for that goal and rooting for them is the largest aspect of that fun, clearing is just the victory of that goal, and is only a tiny part of the experience.

Think of it like PVP (in an ideal world with no botters and a perfect ranking system). I suck at PVP and will never get the top ranking prizes or even place in the top 100, but that doesn't mean the content is wasted and I still get fulfillment from it by challenging myself to the content, win or lose.

Also, remember that we live in an age where you can fill a huge stadium with people, getting them to watch 10 players play league of legends. Is this such a different concept?

Still working on clearing O4S myself. We are definitely getting it and afterwards we will be trying ultimate. Don’t know if that will be before the next raid tier though, guess we shall see if we make it!

One thing I’ve been wondering is if they’ll actually make another ultimate style raid or if this will just be a one time thing.

Pretty sure they have said they will be, with the only reason they wouldn't being if this one flopped. Which so far it doesn't seem to be doing.

One thing to note for the possible next one: They were debating between Bahamut and Titan for this round. So the next one will most likely be Ultimate Titan. Pray for good latency.

but my FC actually has people quitting the raid team for the sake of their mental health. So, when SE talks about clear rewards for Ultimate coil of Bahamut, I find that incredibly optimistic.

If people quit after not even a week of fighting it, they shouldn't even be on a hardcore team. It takes time to get hard things down, and they should love the challenge of it. If they don't, then well....tough luck I guess. I am not raiding hardcore anymore, but if I did, I would love the challenge of it, getting it down bit by bit, improve bit by bit, learn the mechanics properly etc etc. When you finally get it down, if ever, it's gonna be a huge accomplishment in-game.

This is what it really comes down to, this is the sort of content for the absolute top tier teams. Even most folks that manage to down O4S won’t be able to clear this content and that’s perfectly acceptable! The weapon is purely for bragging rights and anyone that obtains it should be proud of themselves.

It's good to hear that Ultimate Coils is giving people such a hard time. Every serious MMO of this kind needs a hardcore raid to seperate the truly elite from even the "midcore". If you don't have content this hard, then the game is truly faceroll. Clearing content is 1 thing, but the harder you have to try to clear it makes said clear all the more worth it when you finally do clear it. Furthermore, there needs to be content not everyone and their mom can clear.

To get back to the subject, as an interested viewer, I think that the fact that they still may not have hit halfway through the full fight is amazing. I wasn’t here when Alex Savage started dropping and one of the runs took 17 days to get the world first public clear. But I’m loving seeing all these hardcore groups trying to win (and not raging and quitting). It seriously makes me want to gather a serious group on my server and get to this fight, just to be part of the magic here.

Alex only took so long because A3S was overtuned and impossible to beat due to a super tight dps check that you couldn't meet with the current gear. As a result its where a lot of groups broke up.

First groups downed A3S week 2, A4S was the true gear gated fight and took multiple weeks for that reason only. For the average player, A3S was too hard, though, it should have been the final boss. But it wasn't impossible.

To be fair they had a 0.3% wipe first week moment before reset. in their opinion if they had played better they could've killed it
