Just because you can clear O4S does not mean ultimate is for you. Ultimate is meant for the masochists that want to get their asses kicked and struggle on a fight

Progression basically like doing A6S. Which was one of the harder fights to progress on because it was basically 4 fights in a row to progress on the next boss you had to keep beating the previous bosses just to try the next boss. Ultimate is like 3 separate fights in a row. It would definitely be easier with checkpoints. I actually like the check point in O4S. Imagine how much harder that fight would of been with out the checkpoint.
It's good how it is this fight should be near impossible for most to clear so people will have the challenge they won't thst are participatingProgression basically like doing A6S. I don’t know if you ever played the original Bayonetta, but that game had checkpoints during actual boss fights. It was actually one of the most brilliant acts of game design I’d ever seen. I wish every mmo had it.
And its far easier than Ultimate Coils.
Checkpoints are BOTH ease of life, and difficulty.
Mental fatigue is part of the difficulty.
Most "Difficult games" are roughly on par with susano in difficulty. (Like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc. But of course the genre is different, so its still comparing apples to oranges)
The difference is that we play an MMO far longer than we play those "hardcore" games, and in turn, are better than we would be, if we put the same limited amount of time into this game.
Find someone whos never played an MMO before, and 7 other like minded people, and make them play their new job at Lv70, for 2 hours. Then throw them into Susano.
The amount of time it will take them to finally clear the fight, should be roughly on par, if not longer, than the time it takes to beat a boss in an equally hard solo game.
So my point is, if we're already past the point of "Difficult" and have tiers higher, like shinryuu, O3S, then O4S, there's only so much more "difficult" that can be thrown into the mix.
Lack of check points are one method.
Another is RNG. (which annoys people even more than lack of check points.)
And 100% absolute perfection. (Which in a game that doesnt have a 100% stable connection to half the players, also not reasonable.)
No matter what method is used, it sure as heck wont feel "comfy", its going to be stressful.
(Unless ur like me, and dont care if u do well or not, and dont mind dieing over and over. Which is part of the reason my group is so slow to progress, as we only clear through doing it so many times, its impossible to mess up anymore.)
CLAIRE PENDRAGON
hey OP to answer your question I've spend all day following the streams. The fight seems awesome is very hard and very challenging people calling P1 easy haven't done it nor beaten I promise you that, it's not insane but it aintd 1 bit easy the amount of dps you have to bring before enrage is insane, right after that you go right ahead into P2 "there's no check points like v4, if you wipe you start all over again" you definitely want to aim for vit melds the amount of dmage is insane and you need it. I think only 1 group breafily got once to P3 you get hit by "THE SEVENTH UMBRAL ERA" aka you get dalamud to the phase and it hits like a fucking truck. I don't know if it's true but people are speculating that there will be 5 phases and from some datamine information Lousoix is going to make an appereance once again as the phenix.... good stuff very challenging and I promise you no one will be beating this fight anytime soon.
Imo it's perfect exactly what the hardcore community needed and it's extremely fun to watch on twitch. xenoxys almost clocked 24 hours before dropping g whith only progressing to p2 which has 3 dive-bombs at the same time. fun times.
Just went in for raid night tonight! Phase 1 is hard but we made pretty solid progress on it; didn't clear 'cuz we bad. No worries though, everyone had fun and seemed to pick up the mechs pretty quickly, we just didn't have a lot of time left in the evening after clearing Omega Savage so didn't get to do many attempts. It's a great throwback fight and my team is loving it. Even if we're not skilled enough to beat it, it gives us something to chew at for a while and I think it's a great addition to the game. So much fun reliving some of my fondest early game memories of wiping hard and progressing slowly through original T5 - looking forward to when we make it through the other phases!

With the announcement "prepare to see all mechanics we ever had in this game" in mind...
We had one hour last evening to take a look. Got Twintania down to 27%. Thats currently much faster than A8S progression.
What we have seen are mechanics of the original Twintania only. Not all of them. Some are missing completely.
Still waiting to see "every mechanic we have seen in this game".

You realise that Twintania isn't the whole fight? That is only phase 1.With the announcement "prepare to see all mechanics we ever had in this game" in mind...
