Fish Eyes (4min)?

Can anyone explain to me how I get the 4min long version of Fish Eyes? Do I need a certain amount of gathering or something? I've only ever gotten 3m version.
Trying to catch swordfish for log completion/collectible.

the time varys by the fish you sense with Fish Eyes. some fish give you a longer buff than other. when there is more than one fish wich you can sense it seems to be random wich timer you get, however, as long as fish eyes is active (and all the other conditions like weather and time met), you can catch all fish wich require the buff, regardless wich timer you got.

also when there is a 3 min timer it's actual a 4 min buff, since the timer goes after 1 min from 3 to 2, after another minute from 2 to 1 and after another minute from 1 to 59 seconds.

Cool thanks for this. I was able to get the weather I needed for the Swordfish, and Fish Eyes didnt give me the 4m timer until I tried a Nomad pie. Coincidence maybe, but there could be something to needing a higher Gathering stat to force the higher timer. Either way I shall I test it again when I can. I was able to get a Swordfish for completion at least so Thanks!

Not sure how long it is supposed to take, but no wonder the swordfish is so pricey on the MB... the weather hasn't lined up in DAYS. Not ET days... earth days... I am nearly at my wits end. I just want one..

There were several swordfish windows over the course of the past five days or so.

I had 40+ of them stocked up when they became a turn-in today.
