Too many empty houses

I am sure this is a problem in other servers than Phoenix as well. Especially when Shirogane came out most of the houses are empty outside and inside. Of course anyone can buy a house and why not, but it's still a waste. I wish something could be done about this, like if the person doesn't visit the house hold or decorate for weeks it will be given a timer for them to do something or they lose the plot, kind of like reclamation but different since these people can still be in the game doing other stuff, when in the meanwhile the house is gathering dust and being unused.

What can be done about this?

Aside from imposing some Hunger Games-style totalitarian state of enforced house usage; not much else.

Ah yes, the inactivity eviction rule is not enough, you must also deign a person worthy of their own house by their decorative preferences.

By the way, the current timer is already set so that the people have to go IN their house to not lose it.

The timer you suggest would not really help anything - all they'd have to do would be move a piece of furniture somewhere every 45 days and they'd be ok.

Housing is expensive. Furniture is expensive, too. Making furniture yourself is time consuming, too. It takes time to decorate a house for some people, especially if they only just had enough gil for the house itself. I saw some plots stay empty for awhile and suspected foul play and scalpers, but soon realized after awhile when they bought a house permit and it was owned by the same person... they probably just struggled to get that extra cash.

Sure, if it's been years and the house is empty ok. I get you. But Shirogane has only been out less than a month. Also it may take some time to plan your designs out as well. Give people some time. If they locked the house, you wouldn't even notice the difference... Anyway, I say this as someone who absolutely hates when people buy a house and don't decorate it at all (because I feel it is a waste, but I don't think they should lose their house for it). I think to complain about it less than a month after the new housing is released is a bit too soon. (And again, if they just locked the house you wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway, even if it sat like that for months so who cares?)

As others have mentioned, there is an inactivity timer already in place. Although it is currently paused at the moment.

Then people might as well and buy an apartment than just having few reatiners in a house and nothing else. People with more use for themselves or FC's with many people online surely has more use for a house than these people.

This was the case for me when I bought my house. I hadn't been playing for very long so getting gil was a slow process as I leveled my character, retainer, gathering and crafting. Same for furnishing the house. I would say it took about 6 months to look reasonably furnished. You also have some players that only get a house for the garden and Chocobo stable which I see nothing wrong with either.

NO matter what people will complain, some people don't craft, are too cheap to buy furniture, or let others do it if an FC.

What can be done about this?

You can come up with a solution that doesn't involve imposing your views on how houses should be decorated on others. Fortunately though, you don't get to decide how people enjoy their houses. You didn't get a house and that sucks. I get it. But please stop trying to find ways of removing houses from people that did get them.

People like this dont even "enjoy" their houses. If you really cared about a house hold youd be decorating it faster than waitign months and months.

If they sit empty they are most likely targets for planned resale at huge bonus. Bad housing set up is bad.
