And on the third hand that grew out of my back, you could also use the argument to ask why this game was changed from 2.0 and should've stayed the same way then because the devs chose to make it that way. See where I'm getting at?Except on one hand you had a game that was an absolute mess on a technical level and financially, impossible to sustain and on the other hand, you have a couple of of pairs of digital underwear. If they didn't alter the first, none of us would even be here discussing the latter. Soooo they're kinda not even remotely the same thing![]()
I feel you guys as far as glamour being the "true" endgame... but I don't really understand the point of view as to have the "race" attire to be used by other races.
I mean sure, I will first say that I don't see what would be wrong with allowing people to wear whatever they want.
Secondly though, if you think about it, is this really a priority the devs should have? Because wearing the other race's attire is kinda tacky if you aren't that race. If you are American and suddenly you decided to wear a full kimono and getta sandals to work, that is your choice of course. But isn't it a just a little bit weird?
Maybe you guys can explain it to me. I know this is a fantasy game of course, and maybe you are just saying to wear it as a stylistic choice and you don't really care about the context of the games story but....still...why those clothes?
I see so many threads like this asking a simple question "Why not?" in regard to some specific minor change... and all I can think of is "But why tho?"

Well, you should've just said that from the beginning because although it's not a good an argument as you think, it's much better than your first. You're still willfully ignoring the point of Alacran's post though. He did not say the devs did everything on purpose and/or everything should stay the same. He was essentially pointing out out that the hempen sets were just one aspect clearly designed with a vision and not everything needs to be changed.
Of course they're going to change stuff because ideas that were good 4 years ago or even 4 months ago may not seem so great now. The point is maybe, just maybe the devs still currently really like some of their ideas (e.g. racial gear) so why should they be forced to change that?

This is kinda how I see it, too. Do I care if they add this? Not really. I just think they should put or keep it on the backburner until they take care of more pressing issues.
FFXI did RSE way better than FFXIV. Mithra RSE was a loincloth because they were a tribe of jungle cat people. And you could go to Kazham and see a bunch of mithra NPCs wearing the RSE loincloth. You didn't need to be told why only mithra wore that because it was obvious through the world building. However, in FFXIV I need someone to explain why only miqo'te are allowed to wear this sexy schoolgirl halloween costume RSE, because it doesn't really seem evocative of their tribal roots and there's no miqo'te city where all the NPCs run around in miniskirts. For my part, a story exists there (even if only in my head). FFXI had us quest for RSE at one time, iirc there was no lore tied to it but it's form was just a recolor of the starter set, at the time i was a bit disappointed that there so few changes made to these new variants of the gear. However even then i recognized as something made by the developers to differentiate the races. It was how they wanted us to perceive them with out having to hold our hand and tell us tale of how our Highlander ancestors were the first to make bondage gear that would be the envy of near every cat ...girl... in the future.
To me it seems like FFXIV has RSE because FFXI did and that's it. I wouldn't be opposed to having new RSE but they would have to do some work to make it believable as RSE for me to not immediately be asking for the one I think looks the best to be equippable by my race too.
True! But for this specific point about hempen sets being locked.. we already had a pages long debate back and forth with the last thread. So in all honesty I'm not willing to potentially do it again even if you never had the intention anyway.. Fact is, no ones is forcing SE in the end. But what SE has done was express their interest in actually changing it, with more than one response on it that almost everyone probably saw. And they created a Hyur NPC with Elezen racial gear on which was never before seen until after the request about the hempen gear.
Whether or not it was an NPC doesn't matter because they still have to create the model that otherwise didn't exist.
End point is, they do show that they might want to do it. Not being forced to do it.
EDIT: They also could've just said "no". Or "we can't" like so many times before. But they didn't.

People talk as if this exclusively requires them to take away from another issue, or that it has to be a "focus." Sometimes I forget that Square Enix is a small indie company working out of Yoshida's garage.
I would like the hempen sets unlocked for all races, simply because some of the other races sets look better or would go better with glam ideas(I really like the Elezen lady hempen top and would love to wear it on my Roegadame).
If people are hung up on "lore reasons" they can simply add "Roegadyn Fashion Designer" to Limsa that sells Roegadyn-style fashions but tailored for other races, or maybe gives a quest that allows DoH to learn how to craft the outfits(the outfits would be low level WVR/LTW stuff, but let all DoH do the quest). Bada bingo, lore reasons are satisfied(There's really no reason an Elezen can't think "Man, I really like that Hyuran Chemisette. If only I could get one tailored to fit me. If only there was some sort of tailor that could tail clothing!")
It's precisely because they're not an indie company that they can't implement this change all willy nilly. They have budgets and development roadmaps planned out months and years in advance. They don't just walk into the office every morning and go "well, what should we do today? Huh, we need more artists? OPEN THE MONEY VAULTS ASAP!" Adding the hempen sets to every race would require what I can only assume is a handful of artists and 3d modelers and whoever else. If SE hasn't decided to work on this already, then yes, that literally means taking them off of and therefore detracting from more important stuff like new tome sets and other glamour items. They could outsource it, but again, there's a budget to keep in mind. It probably wouldn't be super expensive, but maybe they feel that money would be better spent elsewhere.
Again, I wanna stress the fact that I am in favor of this change. I also just want to stress the fact that this isn't as simple and clear cut as people make it out to be. It's obviously not as complicated as fixing the housing crisis for example, but it's still something that takes time and planning.
Someone is probably gonna get mad at me for trying to be reasonable again though. I don't know why I even bother tbh...

If anything, they should bring back the undergarment slot. The default underwear has to go.
