Could you please redirect me to where you found that source ? Because the one that I have doesn't quite say the same thing, taken form the LIVE letter part II :
"1:00:11
Q: I'm not too sure how the job system is going to work. Is it correct to say, for example, that the gladiator will be renamed paladin and we'll be able to change modes?
A: First of all, there's a series of job quests in the pipes. For example, to become a paladin, you'll need to be at least a level 30 gladiator and complete the first paladin job quest. After which, additional job quests will be unlocked every 5 levels."

He does say it in the second live letter, but as you can see in that third link, he mumbled marauder for whatever reason.
From second link:
For example, paladin will be a really special job for tanking. To make sure that he gets those abilities, he will need do more different quests to get those abilities. You are going to protect others, but that’s not all. You have the marauder as a background class before you become a paladin. Those kind of class abilities will be connected to the paladin job. Even if you had more classes in the past, these are not related to the paladin and can’t be used.
I like frog
Thanks for the links, Stufoo.
Strange that in english and french official translations from SE, it's not mentionned at all, but in an unofficially translated japanese version, it is mumbled. >.>
Also, the first two links predate the second live letter. I wouldn't be surprised if, by the time he gave those two first interviews, an "under development" feature like the job system got revised. Also, wouldn't chances are that, if you still need two classes to unlock a job, it's not necessarily a fixed sub-class, but one you get to choose ? After all, if GLA and MRD make sense for PLD, what does make sense for MNK as a sub-class, for example ? Same goes for DRG, honestly. I could understand WHM and BLM, as CNJ and THM compliment each other to a degree, though.
Ah, that's odd. >.>
Well, here it is again : http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/2011/11...ased-11112011/

Since gladiator is the only one that has access to 1 handed swords, I would say Red Mage and/or Mystic is in the future for gld
Oh sorry,
Red Mage - A mage that wields a sword, can use some white magic, some black magic
Mystic - A fighter that uses a sword, and casts enhancement spells on his weapon ie: "Fire Sword"
