    Returning Player, Can’t Decide Job

    Hi,

Like I’m sure many others have faced, I can’t decide on a job to focus on since returning yesterday. I would like some help narrowing down my choices.

Currently I have leveled PLD 52, DRK 51, SAM 52, RDM 51, and a smattering of others in the teens to 30s.

In WoW I main a Druid and Rogue. I love tanking, melee dps, and ranged dps. I consider myself very adept at all three (not that it’s difficult in WoW), being good but not excelling more at one than the others. Healing just isn’t my jam for the moment, though I’ve done it and enjoyed it in the past.

I just can’t decide! Can someone give me a little guidance on what to level first?

    What I want:
Combos, complexity, looking cool (armor / abilities), something needed or desired (be it my role or the utility or sheer damage output.

    What I don’t want:
Simplicity, over-complicated rotation, boring asthetics, not being important / being forgettable.

    TL;DR
Pick my job for me because I’m indecisive.

Personally I love Ninja. It's mobile, the combos are quick, you have team support, and your attacks are a mix of physical melee and casting magic. It's got a little bit of everything.

Everything you want is subjective, but i would second ninja for you, seems like a very fast class from what I've done with it. Seen some really nice armor combinations too. the ninja flip flops all over hell and looks damn good at it.

I really enjoy bard but it's not complicated in the slightest. Bards have very flamboyant aesthetics, some of which i find look amazing.

the other classes i've really focused on and not just leveled were healers so there is my two cents.

Also its pretty cool what people have done with glamours in this game. just head over to eorzea collection website and check em out, you can also apply filters to it. might help.

It sounds to me like Ninja would be for you. Perhaps Monk may be good also for you.
What you can do is run Palace of the Dead with all jobs to give them a try and get a feel for them.
Since in there you level fairly quick and have access to the abilities sooner.
Do not what i mean by level is Palace is seperate from outside world, if you are level 50 in there you could still be 20 outside of it, lol

The Quest is level 15 to unlock Palace and starts @ Gridania Adventure Guild

Since you love tanking and DPSing, I would recommend warrior, very interesting job where you can take the damage and aggro in the defiance stance, and switch to DPS mode in deliverance stance.

Not overly complicated mechanics, but you need to master the stance switch to be a great warrior.

Red mage is better 030 has an easy rotation and has really cool armor, ninja is fun to play while bard is complicated from what I hear

I would third ninja. It has good combos and I believe in the current meta is it desired. The ninjitsu combinations can take a little getting used to, but eventually it comes naturally. It also has some support skills. The ninja aesthetic is really strong though (always crouched down, "Naruto" running, the jump is a forward flip), so I don't know if that would be a turn-off for you like it was for me.

Monk is also a very good contender. The combos are a little more complicated, but it's very active with its positionals and just generally fun to play. It's known for its raw power, and currently it has some of the top dps numbers in Omega Savage (Although it is mostly drowned out by tons of Samurai). It does take a bit more effort to get to that point though, compared to the likes of samurai or red mage.

Bard is active and is definitely a support!DPS, but it doesn't require nearly as much moving around as the other two do. But definitely give it a shot, it might just be what you're looking for!

OP, It sounds like you were a tank main before you left the game. In terms of tanking, I would recommend you stay with Paladin, since Dark Knight is weak as hell at the moment, especially at level 70 where Paladin really shines and gets one of its coolest abilities. In terms of dps, that becomes a more difficult choice- what is too simple/too complicated/cool looking armor and abilities is all subjective. If you don't want "too simple" then Red Mage is definitely out, since it's hands down the most simple Job to play. I personally recommend Machinist, because it brings the power of a melee dps while being ranged, the utility of a support ranged job, and looks flashy as hell jumping and flipping around when using Heated Shots. The newest raid has some nice looking machinist gear too. The rotation is a tad simple but unorthodox enough to be interesting. Happy hunting for your new main!
