I could go into technical details about what the admin access popup does, but it's probably not necessary. The issue very similar to the alt-tab crash for fullscreen users, and it will likely be fixed when that is corrected (no guarantees here, sorry!).

Until that is fixed, you really only have two options:
    1) Turn off UAC (User Account Control). There are several ways to go about this, and depending on whether you are using Windows 7 or Vista, it varies. Here is the easiest way to turn it off in Windows 7: Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control Settings > Drag the slider down to the 'Never Notify' option at the bottom. Doing this will prevent the pop-up requesting admin access for any program. The thing that is crashing FFXIV is actually that pop-up, so this remedies the issue you experienced.
Please don't turn UAC off until you've read this entire post, and you are sure that you want to do this. By disabling UAC, you are allowing admin access to any program, malicious or not.

    2) While running FFXIV, don't open anything that is going to request admin access.

My personal preference is option number 2. UAC is one of the security features that keeps malicious programs from doing crazy things to your computer, and I do not suggest turning it off.

To GMs: You can probably move this thread to the 'Technical Support' section if posts in this section are annoyances for you guys. This topic definitely isn't a game bug, but it might be helpful if you don't lock this one in case there's more discussion to be had on the issue. I like to imagine someone gets an alert every time someone posts in this section, and that's why you guys lock everything. Keep up the good work!
