    Game crashed lost event

I entered the purple gate in grid and fought but on the last wave of enemies just before the priest spawned I heard fan making some weird noises from my computer. Like anyone would I opened up some software (MSI afterburner) to check my cards temp and fan speed to make sure it wasn't being over worked. The card was fine and the noise was coming from a different fan that I will replace soon. However opening MSI afterburner cause the game to crash. I play in windowed mode so opening other programs shouldn't be a problem. After it cashed I tried to log on as fast as I could so I could keep killing and get the chest. When I logged on I couldn't fight anything due to invalid target and no chest spawned. Well yea that sucks but I can live. What drives me nuts is how often opening a program crashes FFXIV not to mention the crashes from CS's.

I ask that you please fix it so we can open a programs while ffixv is running without fear of crashing. I cannot open a program while FFXIV is running without fear I will get the directX error crash. As of right now I am stuck opening the programs I need before I launch the game. Please fix the crashing and get me my chest cause I earned it. >.>

Did the 'you require admin access to open this, do you wish to do so?' window pop up with that program? Due to the way that message works, it's going to kill the game.

Yes it did. Do you know a way around the crashing by any chance?

I could go into technical details about what the admin access popup does, but it's probably not necessary. The issue very similar to the alt-tab crash for fullscreen users, and it will likely be fixed when that is corrected (no guarantees here, sorry!).

Until that is fixed, you really only have two options:
    1) Turn off UAC (User Account Control). There are several ways to go about this, and depending on whether you are using Windows 7 or Vista, it varies. Here is the easiest way to turn it off in Windows 7: Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control Settings > Drag the slider down to the 'Never Notify' option at the bottom. Doing this will prevent the pop-up requesting admin access for any program. The thing that is crashing FFXIV is actually that pop-up, so this remedies the issue you experienced.
Please don't turn UAC off until you've read this entire post, and you are sure that you want to do this. By disabling UAC, you are allowing admin access to any program, malicious or not.

    2) While running FFXIV, don't open anything that is going to request admin access.

My personal preference is option number 2. UAC is one of the security features that keeps malicious programs from doing crazy things to your computer, and I do not suggest turning it off.

To GMs: You can probably move this thread to the 'Technical Support' section if posts in this section are annoyances for you guys. This topic definitely isn't a game bug, but it might be helpful if you don't lock this one in case there's more discussion to be had on the issue. I like to imagine someone gets an alert every time someone posts in this section, and that's why you guys lock everything. Keep up the good work!

I think I will go with number 2. The last thing anyone should want to do is make their computer easier to hack. I still hope that SE will find a way to make it so this crash doesn't happen but until then I will be careful about what I open. Thanks for the help.
