4k issues with window borderless and fullscreen

So up until recently I have always ran the game in borderless window mode (I like to alt tab alot ok? haha) and somehow ran the game in 1920x1080 resolution. I have a 4k resolution laptop. (seriously dont ask me how it happened, I have no idea...)

I think it was either 4.0 or right before 4.0, the game forced me into 4k borderless and my framerate dropped MASSIVELY. I went from 120+ in 1920x1080 to about 20-25 in 4k inside cities that were not even occupied!

The only work around that I have found that remotely works is running the game in 1920x1080 in fullscreen res. However this creates an issue. Everytime I exit the game, I get an error code and my desktop icons get thrown out of order and all over the screen (going from neatly stacked on the left side to randomly thrown all over the screen).

Even in 4k res fullscreen my framrate drops to 20-25. So idk if my graphics card can't handle it or if it's something else. system specs:
    • NVIDA GeForce GTX 980M
      Intel Core i7-6820HK @2.70GHz 2712Mhz 4cores, 8 logic processors
      16GB RAM
      windows 10 (x64 based)

If anyone can help at all with this issue, it would be overwhelmingly welcomed and I would love you forever haha. I love FF XIV but this annoying screen resolution issue I'm having it deterring me away from even logging in just because I don't want to deal with the icons and error codes when logging out after a few hours of playing.

980M is just a bit shy power wise I think of being able to run 4K fully maxed. Try either playing with the settings to get a framerate you like or using the Stormblood benchmark. I had a 1080 desktop card for pre SB and it couldn't quite handle 4k on the benchmark. I upgraded to the 1080Ti and it's smooth as silk.
