if you payed attention to the live stream this was first spoken. It is in pvp only to increase mobility as you need to fight and move A LOT. Not the case with pve, they have 0 intention of bringing it over.

I can safely say I had no issues with hotbars or movement, even back when I ran 3 hotbars (my 2 normal PvE, and 1 PvP-specific) and MCH was a half-caster.

Half of melee/tank actions are useless outside of combo. You never use Royal Authority alone for 100 potency when it does 360 in combo. You don't use Full Thrust alone for 100 potency when it does 440 in combo. Keeping these skills alone taking whole spot is a waste of hotbar space.

I wouldn't mind if the ability count goes down so long as functionality isn't lost. Some jobs I don't think could really take advantage of this though, adding this might accidentally make certain jobs considered even more difficult than before.
As for split path stuff I can suggest a special hotbar that pops up during these moments (optional, players can place down all of them like now if they want), a combo tree sort of. This hotbar can be moved around, clicked, and has it's own hotkey bindings that can be edited (and appears/disappears/fills itself as needed).
So you can see those split path abilities 1 - 2 - 3 , 1 - 2 - 4, 1 - 3 - 5.. those sort of things. Turn into:
1, 1, 1
1, ~ + 2, 1
1, ~ + 3, 1
Three unique finishers, and their in-between has all been moved into 1 button/tree.
The ~ just being a random choice of the key pressed in combination. Becomes a problem for Samurai's combo skipper ability though, since they need access to all the finishers but I guess that activating the ability just opens it's own tree (1 through 5, for each finisher).
So Samurai would now have 1 single target and 1 aoe ability on the bar (and 4 abilities have been moved off the bar into trees).
Any sort of stance swap I feel could be moved into one ability (click and it changes to the other).
But some jobs will definitely be seeing better benefits with the addition than others lol, which may shift which jobs people play (happily and unhappily).

That would be a horrible, horrible system. Not only would the follow up combos magically end up on another key, you'd have to rebind a bunch of controls just to use it.
If it isn't broken, don't fix it. For my part, I find the PvP system absolutely abhorrent. It takes any nuance out of the game and turns into a button mashing contest. That's not how PvE should become.

Eh there was macros and mods that did it in WoW (bar switching stuff), and Aion had a sort of system like it. Worked fine, and was easy to understand. Also any change that throws/removes buttons all over the place will require a bunch of rebinds so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯That would be a horrible, horrible system. I too think this would be a nice upgrade

Combo buttons sucks for high ping players. As a MCH you can hit Heated Slug Shot only for it to stop mid-animation because it changed to Slug Shot, wasting more then a GCD.
Not to mention it'd further the gap for job difficulties, or dumb them all down.
No thanks.
