About server, you think that they will drop the servers that much? they are not going to shove everyone onto 3-4 servers -.- When PS3 version comes out, there will be new people on all servers, tons of transfers, and people going from PC to PS3.
I'm not saying one is incompatible with the other, what I'm saying is that a PC user interface is less cumbersome and allows players to react faster.

This means that PC players will have a slight advantage and PS3 players may not want to play with them because of that.

It's like how PC FF11 players had windower as an advantage, expect this time the gap will be much bigger because we will have actual addons and better controls and user interface.

We already have hints that they plan to make language specific servers, nothing to stop them to make platform specific servers if people cry up for it.

I'm only stating my opinion here by the way, so don't get so offensive.

Either way, this thread has what... 9 likes currently? Against an overwhelming majority in favor of merges, so until further notice, we are getting merges, or mandatory transfers off low population servers, or whichever route they take.

I am sure they appreciate your concern, however the opposition to the merges are clearly outmatched. As developers of the game we play, it is not only their duty to ensure the game looks the best it can in the eyes of the media, it is also their job to make the best play experience they possibly can.

If server merges would negatively impact this game half as bad as some people worry, then by that logic this game is royally screwed and past the point of no return because no blow this game could possibly suffer would be worse than the blow it received when it first launched.

Ok so, they are completely redoing the server system for the 2.0 client. They AREN'T going to merge servers before this happens. Instead, they said they are considering letting the players make a one time move from the server they are on to one of their own choosing until 2.0 drops. This isn't at all the same thing as announcing a server merger because none of the servers that are here now are going to be around once the new ones go live anyway. I understand your concern but in this particular case, its unneccessary. Not only can this games PR not get any worse, but investors have lost all the money they are going to lose from this game already, SE is now privately funding its attempted comeback.

Also, the current world population already shows this game is dead. I am not saying it can't be brought back, but I think the thing that will determine whether the game lives or dies in the future will be the 2.0 version drop and the ps3 release. If this were a title the company was just going to close down instead of try to revive, they would have done so last year some time.

I think you're semi right. I do think that Square Enix is trying to save what little is left of the Final Fantasy 14 name, but I think was will save or kill the game is what we see with the next two patches, and how many players stay in the next two months.

If the job classes are done right, it might over shadow the server merge.

I don't particularly understand the semantic battle that is going on in here. The net effect is the same, servers are going to have there last call bell rung and then offlined.

I'm looking at this whole thread and wondering how in the hell it is possible for so many people that think a company trying to rectify a problem is going to have a bad turnout, really? I mean seriously, They're saying SE merging servers will kill the game, like servers having so few a players that its deserted and SE doing nothing about it is the right thing to do.

    "Doctor, what's going on?"
"You have cancer, we'll have to operate to remove it"
"Nah, better leave it in there, don't want others to think i'm dieing (because to Dye means to paint)"

I think they'd rather have 7000 people paying then 10,000 people playing for free. They're riding on PS3 release and re-release on PC of 2.0.

Anyone with PR experience knows the best strategy usually is to be honest and upfront. Server populations are low and that is negatively impacting player experience for many of the players. While the PR for merging servers may initially be bad it will be forgotten over time if the player base is satisfied with the merger. Not merging servers will just cause continued angst among the active player base and continue to feed a negative perception over a longer duration. Don't forget, word of mouth can be just as powerful as a magazine article.

agreed. i know many people that play this game that go on these review sites that are always throwing their opinions there because they feel they are listened to more there than here. does anyone here not think that those sites don't already know that people on some of the servers feel like they are playing in a ghost town?

yes, a server merge may look bad initially, but it will look much better when the players that were going on there complaining about things go back in and say that the game is becoming more enjoyable. as long as the majority of current players can't even come up with nothing more than "it's not that bad" or "well it is being completely redone" the opinions of people outside of the game will never change. once people that are actually playing the game can start saying "my gaming experience is getting alot better" nobody will even consider changing their minds.

no matter what changes are put into the game(good or bad depending on opinions) being forced to play solo in a mmo because a server is dead is not going to make them enjoy the game more.
