The game already has a bad image with the gaming community. The only thing that will alleviate that is if 2.0 is as good as we all hope it will be. Merging some servers isn't going to make a difference. Also I seen the 2.0 announcement on almost all major websites. So people do know that it is coming.

I agree that merging is pretty pointless. I think it will alleviate the boredom for a little while but that's it.

This is true, but if they merge all PC players into one place (now), when PS3 launches and they add new servers the old servers will be mostly PC and the new ones mostly PS3.

So it would have the effect of making seperate servers (perhaps not comepletely seperate but still enough to make the difference)

What effect that will have on PS3 players wanting to play with PC gamers, ie different UI, addons etc is anyones guess also.

IGN, gamespot and MMORPG both had the news about 2.0 and them starting to charge. Of course when the "we are charging before 2.0" was up, the comments were all saying stuff like "people still play that game" or "i guess they just lost those 3 people who are still playing" ...ect.

every time something negative hits any big game site about this game, its just more fodder for outsiders to dislike it more, or for people who didnt know about it to get a nasty first impression. This isnt about the small playerbase they have now, its about the future and the outsiders who will play it (they wont run this game with 30k~ players for very long)

simple they would just join a server that has their PC buddies already on it, or their PC friends could transfer over to that server. That and the UI will not be that much different from PC and PS3, like FFXI was.

ff11 was only on ps2 at release and it didnt have any problems integrating pc players onto the same servers and onto new servers, and then lets look at the 360 release which also integrated new players

this isnt something new thats going on after all, players will get to choose their servers, youll get new pc players alongside ps3 players when it all happens and all of them will merge in with each other as they choose servers, just the older servers may be a bit more ps3 light then the newer ones when it happens

How is it simple if the server is close to full. (remember launch and how hard it was to get on to a full sever ?)
Maybe the PC player doesn't want to move away from his linkshell and friends.
Yoshi-p said he plans to add a seperate UI for PC users which includes drag and drop. (addons will also have a knock on effect on this)

yes PC version will have addons, but the default setup will be the same for both PC and PS3, and again the two would intergrate fine, does not matter what is happening on your PC client, the PS3 will read it and relay it just fine.

About server, you think that they will drop the servers that much? they are not going to shove everyone onto 3-4 servers -.- When PS3 version comes out, there will be new people on all servers, tons of transfers, and people going from PC to PS3.

Never said that the game was changing colors. What I was pointing out that almost no matter what, Square Enix never mind the Final Fantasy name is more then damaged. Unless FF-14 vr 2.0 is as ground breaking as Six or Seven was, there's vreay little chance the game will recover.

pretty much, unless they can advertise like crazy about how great all the changes are, dont expect this game to have even a portion of what even FFXI had. MMOs are not like what they were 10 years ago, aside from fans, people move on to the next big thing in a heart beat if you cant get them hooked. The only thing making this game not die is the name and the company thinking they can even get FFXI #s.
