    Arcanist Lore Question

Does anyone know how Arcanima works lore-wise? I'm worried it won't work for my character. I talked to a friend and he said, "It's basically math." He said you're reading the book and using it like a cheat sheet for spell equations. Is that accurate?

In the early Alchemist questline, when you have to craft an engraved hard leather grimoire for an arcanist customer, they explain exactly how the books work in terms of how geometry and arcane magic work together. I can't remember exactly what was said, nor how much information there was, but I recall that it was pretty informational for a non-ARC quest. I would suggest leveling up alchemy a little so you can view that cutscene, or go back and view it in An Unending Journey.

EDIT:: I do remember that the very ink used in the books acts as a conduit for magic. Like I said--it is just an interesting tidbit of information about arcanists that go a little more in depth than "lmao math"

From the lore book about Arcanima:
"A form of arcane art using esoteric calculations, arcanima was developed originally by the people of the south sea isles. After discovering a means of expressing natural phenomena in mathematical terms, they refined formulae into arcane geometries - precise patterns that allowed practitioners to weave aether into specific magical effect. This, in turn, bore the school of arcanima."

Like Tillie said, Arcanist utilize geometrical patterns inscribed with special, aether-conductive ink. When they invest their aether into it, you receive the desired end result, be it a spell, or a summon. By changing things in the geometries, you receive different end-results, like the different Carbuncles.

One of my FC-mates plays a chara who's big on Arcanima, and IC has tweaked the geometries to come up with several new custom Carbuncles, similar to what several NPCs have done in canon.

Thought the quests explained it quite well. It is the use of geometric and aetheric calculations and theroies to produce a desired outcome. In this case using that to cast a spell or summoning a carbuncle. This scientific and mathematical approach is why K'lyhia is eventually introduced ti you story wise. She is like an embodiment of this idea of using aetheric theories and equations to try to produce a desired outcome.

That annoys me as well so much that I decided one All Saints Wake to dress up as him as close as I could. Got third in a costume contest.

Thanks for your help. I didn't realize the ink was conductive to aether. I thought you just did them in your head or something.

Thanks. I don't think you can actually replay that moment in unending journey since I'm a level 40 weaver and I have no cutscenes for weaver unlocked. However I haven't actually done that quest yet so I'll get too it.
