Just in need of some general help..

Hey all, this is my first post here so be kind

I've come to FF14 after been an avid player of WoW (Yes, as much as it pains me to admit I am enjoying this game a lot more..) and I just feel lost, I'm going through the story at the moment which is fun, but everything else I feel like I'm falling behind on.

There's quests to unlock certain Dungeons and Raids which I feel like I'm missing, I feel like I should be levelling different classes all at the same time.

Basically I feel like I'm in a mess on here and that I've missed some key components to this game.

I'm just looking for some advice really, or maybe a couple of vertern friends to add so I can get some help along the way (This is a very lonely game when you're just playing by yourself! haha)

Appreciate any help which comes my way!

I'm on mobile atm, so I can't write a lot. But my recommendation would be to join a Free Company.

Don't worry about levelling multiple classes if that stresses you. If you mean the crafting classes, the in-battle repairs are the only relevant benefit to a new player, really. Level them on the side if you want to, but you're not losing out if you don't. I'm still only 20-30 in my crafting classes

I'm in a Free Company at the moment, but I'm not too sure they're that active. I just accepted the invite when they sent it me!

Would I be best looking for a suited Free Company on the Forums then joining them?

https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Dungeons has the list of all dungeons and raids and their associated quest to unlock them. A quest with a meteor icon is part of the main story and will unlock as you progress through it and are mandatory, the icons with a + icon are dungeons unlocked by side quests, not part of the main story. Definately get the 24 man dungeons unlocked. They just added a roulette for the 24mans, which gives a very nice chunk of exp and a is a fairly fast queue for dps classes

Generally any quest with a + icon will unlock some game feature or mode or something.

As far as leveling multiple classes at once, I would personally focus on 1, at least until 50 or so. If you arent familiar with the exp bonus system, you get +100% exp from kills, fates, Palace of the Dead and leves (I think) for every class lower than your highest up to level 60, and +50% bonus exp for 60-70. So if you have a class at 50, every other class you level up to 50 will get an extra 100% exp from those sources, making things easier.

Palace of the dead is a nice way to get a taste of other classes, since its an independant leveling system, you level super fast in it, and every 10 floors you get a nice chunk of regular exp. It wont help you really learn to play the class well, but enough to give you an idea if you might like it.

Welcome to Eorzea. First and foremost, Final Fantasy is a story driven game. Nearly every optional game feature is locked behind a Main Story Quest (MSQ). To experience the entire game you must complete it. How long that takes you is up to you.

If you are feeling like you should be levelling other classes, then level other classes.
I would recommend playing at least one of each class type for a little while to determine which type of play you like the most.
    Tanks: PLD, WAR
    Healers: WHM, SCH
    Melee DPS: MNK, DRG
    Ranged DPS: BRD, BLM, SMN

After you reach lvl50, SAM (melee) and RDM (ranged) are unlocked, assuming you purchased the Stormblood expansion.
After you reach the Heavensward story and travelled to Ishguard, DRK (tank), AST (Healer), MCH (ranged) are unlocked.

I started the game playing Pugilist (PUG / MNK). By the time I was lv40 ish, I really did not like playing it.
I then tried BLM, PLD, DRG, WHM, and WAR. I finished the MSQ as WAR. I also levelled the crafters and gathers too.
Yes, this spreading myself did cause me to take several months to complete the MSQ but it worked for me.
If you are a raider, then you will want to get to the end game and gear up before the next major patch; about 4 months from now.

Forums are one way, or you can keep an eye out for /shout messages advertising them on your world. There's also the FFXIV recruitment subreddit and people post ads on Party Finder too.

At the risk of shamelessly advertising, if you happen to be interested in doing more unconventional stuff and/or running the MSQ duties at authentic difficulty instead of facerolling them, you may be interested in the Discord-based "guild" that I run, by the name of Eccentricity. Our recruitment thread can be found here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ings-Eccentric.

A quickie character search shows that youre progressing through the 2.x questlines at the moment(somewhere between 2.2 and 2.5), and probably using SAM as your primary class. So what that tells me is that the raid and dungeon unlocks youre seeing are primarily for the level 50 content. Level 50 was the cap level for roughly 2 years, so there is a LOT to do at that level(or conversely, to skip over while you continue the storyline). There are certainly some fun dungeons in that mix, the 8 man raid for that tier is incredibly well done, and the 24-man got infinitely more accessible with the newest patch. But none of this yields "current" gear. In fact, most of your gear is on par/close to it the best from the raids available at that time already(the toughest raid drops were good 130s). So if you feel like taking a break from the story to unlock and try everything then go for it! If you want to get another class or two a few levels then have at it! All the exp youd get unlocking everything could certainly be spread out a bit. The current cap is level 70, with an item level of about 340. The next major patch(3-4 months from now) will increase the ilvl(though 70 will stay the general cap), so that certainly leaves you time to side trek and still get caught up when everything takes its next step forward. Happy hunting!

Try finishing the MSQ and doing quests that have a blue with a plus icon for now. Do sidequests later or when you need to level up/ get achievements / minions.

Awesome replies guys, did not think I would get this much!

I've just been blasting out the Story Quests over the weekend, does anyone feel like they get really stales at this point of the game? I feel like I'm running backwards and forwards to the same places.

Yes, everyone feels that. They get better by the time you get to the end of 2.X and to Heavensward (3.0, unlocks many new areas and a lot of new content for you). I would advice not to try to burn through the story too fast, just progress at a pace you find enjoyable.
