There is nothing "quick" about quick synth. The only thing it does is save you button clicks and lets you go start dinner.

It takes you roughly the same amount of time to craft any 40 durability (at lvl 67 I could craft similar level 40 dur items within 4 actions.) When you "quick" your toon makes the item then stares at the wall for 5s, in that time frame you could have manually crafted the item.

So yes, if you can manually craft the item FASTER or the same time as "quick" synth, it should be 100%.

It really should be called "auto" synth rather than "quick".

I actually timed Quick Synth vs. Manual NQ Synth back in Heavensward. I don't recall the exact times, but if I remember correctly... When timing from the point where the crafting log disappears during the start of the synth to where the crafting log reappears afterward for both Quick and Manual NQ Synth, Quick Synth was only a second or two longer than Manual NQ Synth with only one Synthesis action required to complete the craft. Each Synthesis action (and any other action that causes the character to interact with the tool they're using for its animation as opposed to raising one hand like with buff actions) takes approximately 2.5 seconds for each use.

In result, I found that Quick Synth was slightly slower than single-action Manual Synth while being slightly faster than dual-action Manual Synth.

It's not quite as slow as you describe. It probably just feels that way because you're not pressing any buttons, so it's like watching paint dry.

I also found it strange that even at lvl 70 with melded i290 gear i was getting frequent failures quicksynthing 68 recipes, and on occasion lvl 66 too. I looked around and saw people with much higher stats than mine still reporting failures, the highest was over 1500 craft and still failing on lvl 68 quicksynth.

I have no idea what is needed to get 100% success on these but I have a feeling that SE purposely made it either extremely difficult or impossible to do during this patch as a way to prolong the grind for Gyr Abanian Alchemic. For instance I just turned in 30 Gazelleskin Brais of Scouting which required crafting 120 twinthread and making 30 twinsilk from those, plus 60 gazelle leather. All of these are lvl68 and I had to manually craft them all because I didn't want failures from quicksynth. And after all that I still didn't get enough srips to get even half of the achemics needed to make all of the mainhand tools.

So basically, instead of dealing with weekly capped scrips we get to choose between manually crafting thousands of mats or loosing a bunch of mats to quicksynth.

Anything over lvl 65 and I'm crafting it manually, even if I don't go for HQ. And that is because it does annoy me...A LOT, but also because i want all my inventory adding to spiritbonding gear for materia. I want ZERO failures, lol.

I quick synth materials to spiritbond. And the melds in my spirtbond gear are usually vit because there is a lot of unused vit materia in the company chest.
I expect fails even though I usually use vendor Warrior's Stew.
But I just might use low level crafting materia instead. Can't hurt, might help.
And has any deep theorycrafter weighted Co, Cr, and CP in quick synth?

From a thread in Items, Synthesis, and Gathering:

As someone who constantly quick synths Twinsilk for Spiritbond my gear, I say you need to raise your CP, that's all I can really suggest.

Personally I only quick synth to SB gear to convert to materia for melding purposes, do you just buy your grade VI materia?
