    What exactly damages a fairy

Hey all, i'm a SCH and started raiding with a static, and looking to optimise my healing in general, so i need to know, what damages a fairy?

I usually have my fairy follow me in fear of Lily just dying from an AoE, but this means she isnt using spells when she is moving, which is innefficient.

What sort of AoE affects her?
are there specific spots where she should be placed in some fights to both provide heals and dodge an AoE that would kill her?

While levelling, she got affected by a lot of AoEs in dungeons, but it seem to be less of a problem now then it was during ARR, so is it safe to assume Lily isn't affected by any AoE in most raid contents and should be placed in the middle of the group in general?

For the most part anything that would hurt you. There are some exceptions to so some attacks, very limited. Just like you, it can gather enmity as well or aggravate mobs near by even when they are not looking while sneaking around. Specially in dungeons. Best thing to do is to place in safe area depending on battle and use sustain. Move as needed.

    Sustain doesn't exists anymore - @Manuel Bravo

I haven't played SCH all that much in SB, but from what I have seen is that, the one thing that WILL kill fairies are cleaves. As for aoes, I actually feel they don't take nearly as much damage from them as they did back in HW (to compensate for lack of sustain maybe).

I feel like the times when my fairy did die it was to dumb stuff like cleaves, so they kinda seem to take either negligible damage or they get rekt in one hit. Which isn't TOO bad now that summon takes normal cast time, it's just kinda dumb because you don't have time to think if the damage fairy took is worth dissipating it for, because it's already dead. :P

*waiting for any scholar to come into thread, because I am not actually sure what I'm talking about. Please correct me if I'm wrong*

Sustain is back, but it shouldn't be necessary that often.

You're right, cleaves murder pets since they enjoy no damage reduction on them. Raid-wide AoEs deal negligible damage, though. Most environmental effects like DoT floors do nothing.

Tank busters with an AoE component like Exdeath's Thunder will kill pets standing too close to the tank.

Generally speaking, pets are fine as long as they aren't getting cleaved or accidentally sharing damage with the tank.

Nope your right sorry I was thinking SUM pet for a sec, you have to cure it.

Correction; As stated above looks like I was not crazy sustain is there I do cure it on occasions as well depending on dmg taken. Sorry been swapping between both jobs recently doing relic for them and had an old man moment.

Sustain was reintroduced in a recent patch for both Jobs.

The easiest rule of thumb is that targeted cleaves (be it cones or circular on the tank) will usually hurt pets, whereas PB aoes or flat out unavoidable stuff usually won't. It's a bit of a game of catch 22, getting Lily closer to the tanks will help her prioritise them for Embraces, but get too close and you're risking getting her cleaved of course. Thus getting effective pet placement down is a useful art (If not quite as essential as it was in Coil).

Im a SCH raider working un Unending Coil now and I dont feel any problem on EOS dying to almost anything, if its placed on an strange spot shared tank buster can kill her, the rest usually wont kill and party aoe heals should be enough.
I have never used sustain in SB and my EOS have died at most 5 times.

Basically I try to put EOS on the middle of the arena, so the party buffs will hit everyone no matter there positions.
The only bad spot for fairy to be is with MT as again, tank buster will kill her.
