How to name a Chocobo? (PS4 controller)

So a quick newbie question.

I'm playing on PS4 with a controller and no keyboard. When I log in (and when I created my character) I get a virtual keyboard on screen so I can type my Character Name etc.

However I just got my first Chocobo and have to enter a name for it. But no virtual keyboard appears. How do I type a name in the box with the controller?

Unfortunately I cannot answer your question, but I do recommend you'll get a keyboard for your PS4 so you will be able to communicate with other players in dungeons etc.

If I recall correctly, you have to click into the text entry box and hit X to get the virtual keyboard to pop up. Been a while since I played on PS4, but every text entry box should pop up a virtual keyboard when you activate the box.

You may have to use the touchpad and click on it to get the keyboard to pop up. sometimes it doesn't always pop up automatically.

Scroll through your ui til you get to the chat box and press the square button... if you type something and leave other virtual keyboard and need to erase something reenter the chat box and then press triangle to delete characters...

Go to the chatbox and hit triangle and your virtual keyboard will pop

So the answer is it's the Triangle button. But for some reason when I'm in that Chocobo naming box I have to press it more than once (I did try just about every key combination before I posted on here - but I didn't try pressing keys multiple times).

So just in case someone has the same issue, spam that Triangle until the virtual keyboard pops up.

A wireless keyboard is on the wishlist...

It's actually the square button... triangle deletes previously typed characters... it even tells which buttons do what under the chat box

Weird because for me it's always been Square that deletes characters and Triangle that opens that virtual keyboard. Maybe you changed it?

It's Triangle for me and always has been. There's a weird lag to it though, so I often end up mashing it when I'm lazily entering some text that way.

But yes, please get a keyboard! It will make everything much more fun. Even an old USB PC keyboard with an annoying lead is less painful than the on-screen keyboard once you're grouping up with people
