Account Information > Change Your Country

Since we all know that Crysta isn't available for all countries, I'd like to propose the idea of giving us the option of changing our countries in [Account Information]. Even if it's a temporary change until Crysta is accepted everywhere, or until we have a new payment method.

I don't think this should be a hard or a complicated decision that could cause any difficulties, people travel to other countries all the time..

There are legal issues associated with this, especially given all the countries in the world have their own laws and financial regulations over payment systems to worry about.

SE have taken the responsible route of ensuring they take all reasonable attempts to prevent fraud in their system (lying about your country of origin in finance is a form of fraud in many countries). Not all companies do this for practical reasons, but UNDOING this decision is legally more complicated than implementing it.

Although, if someone really moves country, it creates complications...

My account is temporarily suspended right now because I didn't "Lie" about my country when I had the chance to, like some friends who are happily playing right now.

"Country of origin" has nothing to do with this, aren't we supposed to abide by the laws of the country we are currently in? I'm willing to take a plane ticket right now to any nearby country that accepts Crysta if that would change a thing.

Or is it because I was "born" in that country that I'm doomed to not playing until SE adds a new payment method in 6~18 months? And even then, I'm not sure that new payment method will support all countries.

Alot of countries do have strict laws about virtual currency, which can take along time and alot of money to make legal to use, if the cost outweighs the money they predict they will get back from that country it isnt profitable, they offered an option to use a different payment method but either people dont want to use it or they cant use it in thier country, probably something SE forgot to ask click and buy but I dont wanna get into this argument again.

Also if you lie about your location you either will not beable to pay (ex. SE does not allow payments from UK in USD) or ultimately if SE find out (bank exchange rates etc etc) this can and will result in your account being banned because it could look like fraud.

    Welcome to the club.

I actually agree with your opinion. I just don't see it as actually plausibly happening.

Yeah which is why we should be given the option to change countries at will, considering that people travel. And if the country was changed falsely, then it would be that user's problem, not SE's.

And C&B does not accept all credit cards / banks / countries.

If I could change my country, I wouldn't worry about being "beable to pay" because I can just get an Ultimate Game Card that's being sold in every online game-card store, and use it.

And SE wouldn't care less if the location was real or not, I played XI for over 7 years with a false location, and I used to remind the customer support every once in a while about that.

Read my post again, I said it could have been something SE forgot to ask C&B in thier meetings

I would have banned you for saying you gave a false location, because your bank details could have been compromised, also when you are talking about atleast a UK account could be paid with dollars, I expect it is similar for other countries but I cannot comment on that. Therefore for then they wouldnt know appart from what you have said.

However if a payment for an UK SE account comes from a US bank in pounds, a red flag would show on the system every billing cycle and it would look like your account has been compromised or you have stolen someone elses card unless you say otherwise, You could ultimately see criminal charges if they think you have stolen someone elses card.

Your location and your payment location don't really have to match. In XI I used the NA version and put the "US" as my country, but when I payed it asked again for my bank's location and I chose my country. And it worked like a charm.

If you are going to Ban me because my country didn't exist in the list, I'd say you're exactly the person SE should hire, you'd make a great addition to their current team.

FFXI used different systems then, POL allowed that sort of thing, however with internet fraud ever increasing they have been forced to change thier policies, which is why FFXI no longer uses POL for billing I would expect becuase it is not sutable for it now.

All it takes is one fake phone call from your bank (wait at a cash machine for someone to take thier card out and if you can see the logo you can get the bank.

Then you make a call with a hidden number pretending to be your bank, you give your bank details and someone can make an SE account with your card anywhere in the world.

Credit card fraud is one of the fastest growing crimes because it is actually kind of easy to do.

Infact I was watching a show about potential ways to get hussled and advice to prevent it called The Real Hussle, and someone had her bag stolen, the person that stole it said he was from her bank and gave her his phone to call the bank call center (which was an accomplace really) she gave all her bank details so they would have the ability to wipe out her bank account.

Or there is the spam emails claiming to be from a bank which people do fall for.

lets not forget keyloggers that can take your online banking details.

This is why the rules are getting stricter for everyone.

I wouldnt be banning because your country is not on the list, I would have a link to customer services for advice if your country was not on the list or a catch all "other" option

The fact is with the increasing CC fraud going on companies like SE need to ensure that a stolen CC cannot be used.

I have even seen websites that say in order to buy the first item off them your banking address and your delivery address have to be the same so you cannot steal a card, use thier banking address and the item delivered to you.

You don't seem to know how easy it is to steal CC details and how dedecated some people are to stealing CC details.

I do agree that it is lame to steal a CC to pay for a game but it is easily done.

Fake phone call? Keyloggers? Stolen CCs? Dear lord..

This has nothing to do with fraud or stealing credit cards. It's not like I'm filling my Account Information with a fake name, phone number and other stuff.. it's just the "country" which should be changeable depending on where you are at the moment.

The details on the payment are real, as well as the name on both the account and the credit card used. they can call to verify anytime they want. Fraud has nothing to do with changing countries, it's happening whether people can change countries or not.

SE isn't dealing with fraud either way, it's just a gateway to Paypal/C&B/UltimateGame, and THOSE companies will deal with fraud when it happens.

Please don't talk about things that have nothing to do with our subject.
