Fishing skill 'Patience'

When you use Patience and then fish, and it says, "the fish sense something amiss. Perhaps it is time to try another location," you lose 470 GP because it auto-cancels your fishing and have to wait for it to regen, even with a Cordial. Can this be removed for this specific problem?

For example, I have a 3 year old and another baby on the way. When I'm fishing, I don't always have the time to back out of what I'm doing when I need to go tend to her, if she gets into stuff she shouldn't be, etc. Usually by the time I come back to the game, a good amount of time has passed, and I've done forgotten how long I've been standing there with my fishing rod out. So then when I go to continue fishing, use Patience, cast my line, I get that frustrating message that I have to move elsewhere. Then all that GP is lost, and I have to wait for it to regen even when using a Cordial.

It's an annoying issue I ran into a few times while waiting on a DF queue (when I came out of a dungeon it would have me tagged as in the same spot for too long). The workaround I ended up using was every time I came back from a DF, I'd always cast 1 normal line to see if it had kicked in or not (you can instantly pull the line back in if you don't want to lose the bait).

Yep, it's one of the stupidest aspects of the system. Complete bs.

Fishing itself is a fustercluck if you ask me, but stuff like this is in place to prevent botting. The best way to prevent the loss of GP from a case like this is make it so Patience stays active when you put your rod away.

It is kind of annoying but I'd rather have it to prevent bots and the destruction of the fishing market. A lot of people don't like fishing, that creates value.

Please describe why this prevents bots from doing their thing... I'm very curious. I've never seen a bot fishing. They tend to be doing stuff that actually makes gil.

You can only fish in one spot for a certain amount of time before you get that message. You then have to move elsewhere, sometimes even to another spot altogether. The reason you don't see fishing bots often is because there's an anti-botting system in place (the one above)!

It might not even be a bot prevention issue. It might have more to do with the conditions placed upon any of us to catch certain fish (big ones). For instance, in Hinterlands, Upper Thaliak River, you have to catch 6 hedgemole crickets (iirc) to trigger a buff (intuition) that lasts 2-3 minutes to catch another fish that is only available in clear weather from like 1-4pm. This way, you cannot just catch 5 crickets, and then wait there forever afk til the weather/time is right, catch the 6th cricket and be ready for the whole window. You still can...but have to plan it better.

Also, there may be better examples...like aethersands fish, culinarian use fish, desynth, etc...

Its an anti-bot thing, not a Big Fish thing. I forget when the first Big Fish were introduced, but the anti-bot “sense something amiss” has been in the game at least since the PS3 beta.
