Really? That hasn't been my experiemce at all with Legion (most notably Argus, where you can't just fly over everything and skip it). I actually find doing my Army of Light WQs to be a bit onerous because of how beefy the mobs are.
That is a big one, and SE needs to make BIG steps to improve it. I fear they only keep "loyal fans that simply love FF games while being a deterrent keeping or making new fans.Tbh SE is not as good as marketing or customer service as Blizzard so the playerbase is not as forgiving, I mean heartstone and other games have pulled some shady shits over the years yet they are still alive and kicking and those that pointed them out have been silenced by a "Loyal fanbase".
As for comparing games it is a good thing so it cam be improved. I would really be shocked to find someone that thinks FFXIV has zero flaws. Would it be possible to know these flaws if you just accepted everything thrown at you and just accepted everything for the simple mindset "that is how things are"
Also this game is stora close being a WoW clone anyway (FFXI being drastically different) so I do not know the shock people make the comparisons. Also the producer of FFXIV has stated to play games such as WoW and splatoon.
It is not unique though, if you want unique see ffxiI feel like it's certainly at best a stretch and at worst a misrepresentation to say that Kavia has "strong opinions" on WoW based on this thread alone. From what I can tell she has strong opinions on FFXIV staying the unique MMO that it is and that has lead to it's success.
Also there are a LOT of things as far as functionally that wow does better then this game does. The major difference of the 2 games in who prefers what is graphics and story. Overall basic stuff like getting mail, pulling up GM menus, inventory management, input/ability delays, UI, etc, chat box errors/bugs, chat box management, ability to talk to others in pvp and in DF, talking/ inviting people across servers (likely we got that in 4.1 is because of wow, wow still manages it better though ) CRZ, outside world phasing, selecting different outside world instances, swimming, zoning, falling, etc... WoW is a lot faster in processing and much higher quality in doing these things. There is a HUGE list of small things wow does better, put it simply. My guess is the problems of the game's code being built off 1.0, they really need an overhaul at some point if they are going to let this game properly expand.

When people say the only thing FFXIV needs to work on is housing and glamour issues it shows what the overwhelming majority of the OF crowd seem to want; The Sims: Final Fantasy.
When people talk about learning from WoW they are talking about the game play and qol changes related to making the ACTUAL GAME better, not just dress up and "tanning mechanics" and whatever other rid-icu-lous things the OF thinks up.
I love the story and aesthetics, that's why I play FF over WoW but at the end of the day I still want to play a game, not a chat simulator.
One thing I would love to see is something familiar to the mythic+ system WoW recently implemented in Legion. It's beautiful and works really well, we already have timer's so it isn't going to be a big deal or developing effort. If they don't want to make it more gearing experience, I would be fine with some cosmetics for beating it in a certain timer.
More options are never a bad thing. I never played WoW but some of the things I hear from former WoW players does sound interesting and if could be implimented into the FF system, might be fun to try out as additional content.
The comparisons to WoW are always going to pop up. It's the biggest and most popular MMO for a reason, so obviously players and developers are going to draw comparisons and even in some cases get inspirations from WoW, Yoshi P has already mentioned that there are parts in FFXIV that drew inspirations from WoW. Wow is the poster child for successful MMOs, hence why so many companies have tried to emulate it despite crashing and burning. All I can say is FFXIV is still a top contender for one of the biggest and most successful MMOs, but it still has room for improvement. Outside of instanced content the game suffers, the world feels dead once you've completed your MSQ and fates are a joke. I honestly won't be surprised if they design new content for the world with world quests from wow being the inspiration. Just because you don't like the WoW comparisons doesn't mean comparing aspects of both games is a bad thing.
WoW itself wasn't even as innovative as the fanbase would have you believe. Blizzard did engineer the lore and story using their Warcraft franchise to create a setting but the UI and features in the game were taken from numerous other MMOs that came before it.
Incorporating ideas from other games isn't inherently bad as long as the developer tries to also innovate some of their own ideas or improve on what was done before. Sometimes they fall on their face doing so. Take FFXIV's housing issue. The system was originally created around being an FC feature and for the most part it seemed to work great. Then it was changed to support individual players and this is where they have kind of fell flat and are now in a situation without a real solution that isn't going to amount to more than a Band-Aid and any proper solution is going to upset someone somewhere.
I disagree that was the reasoning. When housing was first released and it was FC only it cost a ton of gil and not many people could afford it, so it felt special when your FC had one.WoW itself wasn't even as innovative as the fanbase would have you believe. Now the world if raining gil and the supply can't meet the demand because there is too much gil around. So then it becomes "Oh I have nothing else to do with the gil so I want a house"
