But this isnt WoW and never will be WoW. Wanna play like WoW play WoW.Its extremely annoying. Most of the FATEs that I do fails because of this timer. For people that says that they won't work without the timers: Check out the World quest system in WoW. In WoW the world feels much more alive and active cuz of the World quests... I see people everywhere. But in FFXIV the world feels very empty. Here people are just queuing for dungeons or trials inside their houses or main cities. Please SE do something about the open world... it feels very empty and will leave a bad impression to new players.
Fates are stuck on timers for a reason.
i assumed you mean lv 50++ fates, yes those ones took sometime to solo...
anyway the problem is not the timer ;w; but how people dont do fate much anymore apart from event/special one.
they need to add more reward like tomes, chances for cracked/mhachi cluster (crystal would be appreciate<3) or other useful stuffs.

End-game focused around open world actually kills the game for many players. So no.
If end-game things are focused on open-world, you end up having these events that kill the weaker player machines (or even servers...look at Ixion) due to how many people are at one point. Then the event ends...and most people lost out and are unable to progress (they can't stand the hardware demand), all the while the world STILL IS dead to them...Cause the event passed so there is no reason to be there anymore.
The fact of the matter is that people just won't walk around the map casually. There is really close to no reason. Why?! People just teleport between the closest areas near their points of interest and walk the minimal amount. That's why you can expect people here or there in towns...but hardly any outside them. And how is that different?! How many people do you see in the forest nearest to you? Do you know how many beautiful and empty spots are in the real world? You live in a village, town or metropolis...so you are used to seeing people around. But the moment you leave those places (away from the roads...)...you'll see a person here or there. The same as in game. That's because people just don't appreciate the road. Vast majority care only about the destination.
And timers are necessary. There are some locations related to repeatable quests where monsters interfere with them. Not in a way that makes them impossible to do, but in a way that makes them more of a chore, like locking one of three/four nodes for Ixal quests. It is very much good that I don't have to waste 5-10 minutes to clear a fate in order to actually do the quest without unnecessary interruption. I can just wait for it to run its end, if it is sometime in the middle. The fact of the matter is that if someone WANTS to make the FATE's, then they WILL do them, despite the timer.

i've ran into new players who hate fates because they get killed by fate mobs while they quest.
so no thanks. some fates share leve quest areas for gathering classes, and it sucks to try and gather around them. goblin used to be an empty world now i see new players hourly in starter zones. people are contently joining this game or making alts starter zones are rarely empty.
A ranks hunts exist they drop tomes as well how about do new players/alts a solid and keep them killed. the serpent A rank in morby bay was up in malboro last i saw a friend/co-woker of mine started a lala there and got killed by it due to the fact it is sitting by candlekeep quay died so fast the death animation delayed a few secs.
Make the gil reward better for fates, give fate exclusive crafting items, give items to trade in for exclusive minions/mounts/barding/glams... this is how you improve fates... not ripping off a crap system from WoW
fates already do this. the higher the level the more gil you get. big boss fates like cancer give out minions and glamour fates like ixion give out looks and mounts. Once ppl get their reward they drop it like yesterdays fish stew.
The answer is clear. Keep timers on FATES, but don't let the timer run out if someone is actively engaged in the FATE at the time. If they die or leave the FATE then it should run out.
It's because specific fates give a specific reward... I was thinking of more like special fate currency like fate coins... something that doesn't cause people to camp one fate in particular... kinda like the reason people still do hunts, or play the gold saucer
Most fates can be done in 5 minutes... low level fates sometimes only take 2 minutes !
I guess you're just getting there too late.
Well, soloing fates on a healer can be annoying.. set chocobo to dps only. Or, you could always make a PF while grinding fates and see if anyone joins in. I do the fate weekly challenge log and it's not hard to do.
