    Removing timers makes no sense.

But say 2 of the lower tier tomestone (or poetics for the old, easy FATEs when capped level) would be a good incentive to join up with people and do them more. Even 8 is probably too many given how many FATEs you can churn through in a queue.

Oy, check your WoW world quests again. They do have timers, just really long ones. The "end game gear" is absolute crap for the most part that's only good for vendor/shard fodder unless you just hit level cap, and even then most of the time it's still crap with junk stats you don't need and would downgrade you. Really the only reason to do the world quests in WoW is for that very minute chance you open your coffer at the end and get a legendary, and even then, good odds it'll be a crap one with junk stats that'll make ya wanna cry because you know the next one is going to take a very long time to get.

Fates aren't perfect, but unlike the god awful World quests from WoW you can actually just farm them 'till you drop dead if you wanted, they keep spawning indefinitely. And they do offer rewards and different ones at that depending on the fate. Do a little research, ya may find something you want out of them.

I've done manyyyyyyy fates from ARR to SB. And I don't know how you can fail most of the fate you do because of the timer.
So here some practical tip to "solo-fating":

    - If a fate has has less than 7 minutes left, don't bother running to it. Especially if you want to also be able to kill the Forlorn Maiden that randomly can appear during the fate. ( If you have bad or good equipment, you might want more or less than 7 minutes, tweak accordingly)

    - Always summon your chocobo companion, and don't forget to feed him Thavanarian Onion to unlock higher rank past rank 10.

    - Not all but most of the non-upscaled non-boss fates only have 2 monsters spawned. If you see 3 or more, in most cases it means the fate is upscaled and it will take more time complete. A "4 monsters fate" is usually not worth timewise attending solo. With enough practice in each area, you learn to immediatly recognize when a non-boss fate is upscaled or not, and if the fate is worth doing in that context.

    - If you're doing a Boss fate and you notice the progress bar is very slow, it means the fate is upscaled, and you may want to ignore it and move to another Fate.

    - Don't bother solo killing the Forlon (the big one), it's not worth it.

    - If you notice fates are upscaled, move to a different part of the same map. Because a fate finished with X players will upscale X times nearby other fates, but it's not map wide, so farther fates might not be upscaled, and by letting these upscaled fates run out, it will remove the upscale from that part of the map.

In WoW the world feels much more alive and active cuz of the World quests... I see people everywhere. But in FFXIV the world feels very empty. Here people are just queuing for dungeons or trials inside their houses or main cities. Please SE do something about the open world... it feels very empty and will leave a bad impression to new players.
Good God.I am done with this nonsense of Bring what WoW adds to FFXIV or (Insert Game's Name Here).
The few things written Below are coming from an Ex-WoW player that loved Warcraft but got fed up and since i found FFXIV i am totally happy(Tho yes improments are welcome) .
First of all World quests is one of the worse ideas ever implemented in an MMORPG.The whole and only reason Blizzard added this is to Time-Gate Content Behind World Quests(Flying,Artifact Power ..)or to add a carrot on a stick (Lootboxes for Mounts).
Do you want this to come to FFXIV also ? FATES is a nice optional Event happening in the world. Its not a Mandatory Chore that much be done in order to progress content. And yes if you want to progress in WoW you need to do World Quests.
At long last please Stop Bring WoW as an example especially after Wotlk.
If my dear friend WoW's Ideas were so badass as we needed to bring them to FFXIV then explain me why since Blizzard and Cancervision turned on to this model they lost 80% of their Sub ?(And yes i know its still more than FFXIV but this shows something).

There are one or two I can think of, and they're all the "if NPCs all die, FATE fails" type. The one in Upper La Noscea is rather cruel; if you're not there as it starts, chances are good it's going to fail. And Defending the Hive in South Shroud is also a bit tough if you come in even a little late (but less impossible at least).
But, those aren't tight because of time limit, they're just a little frustrating that the time remaining can be misleading.
I think I may have also failed a boss FATE or two because of time, but that was simply due to fighting solo as a healer and just not outputting enough damage.

I know exactly which one you're talking about.. protect the caravan. yeah, that one is poorly made/bugged. But the majority of the Fates out there give plenty of time, even solo.

Honestly FATEs serves as EXP battery and to make the scenery look somewhat alive and even in this way ppl are easy to hate them, dunno what might happen if they were like world quests (which tbh they are just like bounties of D3)

I'm up for almost anything that helps populate the open world. Seriously it's maddening to waste all of those beautiful landscapes.

Yup.. right now the open world feels so empty its really sad. Recently in an interview with gamerscape one of them asks Yoshida if there are any plans to make open world endgame content. Yoshida replied that we are not trying to make another FFXI.

After reading through that I was like... WTF... ok everybody knows this is not FFXI but SE should try to make endgame content that is focused on the open world. There are many good mmos out there like GW2 or ESO that focuses heavily on the open world... SE can easily borrow ideas from those games. The entire endgame of FFXIV from ARR to Stormblood focuses only on instanced content. What is the purpose of making such huge wide beautiful zones if they are not going to utilize it for endgame?

Egh, they're going to feel empty anyway, because most of the people aren't running around in the zones, they're flying over them. The most "life" you'll get is a zerg high in the air that occasionally swoops down on whatever immediate attraction (Hunt/Fate/InsertRandomGoalHere) is on the ground like a falcon that spotted a mouse, then hide in the clouds again where you won't see them. Even if a zerg passes you by while you're doing your fishing on the ground, it passes by invisibly and make it seem like there's nobody around.
