    Unable to complete version check

Errors upon errors in this game. You see guys this is one of the main reasons why FFXIV cannot overthrow WoW. A 13 year old runs flawlessly on decade old tech while a new game cannot run on todays generation of techonology. People nowadays lead a very busy life schedule and when they come home from work to play this game and then they get greeted by these errors that were from 2013. 4 years later Square Enix still cannot solve these issues.

If you're on PC it's usually a simple fix like editing a number on your ffxivboot.ver file just change the last digit from a 1 to a 0 and it would then go through the update process.

You need to change your DNS settings. It's cached your session and thinks you're already on the current launcher version, which is why it fails.

I know it's annoying but only do a chargeback if you're never planning on returning; you'll be blacklisted. Changing a couple of digits in your network settings temporarily is a very easy fix.

(I've had this bug loads of times and DNS changes are a 100% fix for me.)

The file inside my documents and the fix above didn't work for me either but this one did so worth a shot.

Inside your \Program Files (x86)\Square Enix\Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot is a .ver file called ffxivboot. Take that file and drag it onto your desktop, open it with notepad, there'll only be one string of numbers, change the last number from 1 to 0. Save the file, and drag it back into folder. Then run the ffxivboot.exe file as an admin, and your launcher should update.

For steam it's inside the steamapp library where you installed the game
    For me - D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot

Fix 2: Verify Your Game Cache
This fix is for the Steam version of the game. It does occasionally happen that files will become corrupted,
Find Final Fantasy XIV in your Steam library.
    Right-click and select 'Properties'.
Navigate to the 'Local Files' tab.
Select 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache'

This solution isn't the most likely to work, but it's definitely one of the easiest to try.
    Fix 3: Edit Some Files
This fix is pretty easy, and works fairly well for most people. But to do it, you'll need to find your Final Fantasy folder.
Once you've found your Final Fantasy folder, you'll need to find a file named "ffxiv_boot.cfg".
Open the file with Notepad or a similar program.
Find "Boot Version Check Mode". (There should be a zero next to it)
    Change the 0 to a 1.
Save the file and restart your FFXIV launcher.

people have been pointing the third one out but if its on steam u can try the second one out.

A 13 year flawless run for WoW?
Hey, at least that got a chuckle.
Before ffxiv I played wow for years. There's a bit of a reality gap between the actual and the perfection being quoted.
