More story Quests... more class quests... this has been talked about ad nauseum and will, more than likely, go on ad infinitum...
But there is an equally pressing issue.... the current quests don't have the immersive qualities that they should.
For starters, they are extremely unintuitive.
The Journal is a reference..... and is, in theory, written by your character. You should be able to finish a quest without having to look at your journal. The quest itself should reveal clues as to where you have to go. Instead, the Story and Class quest NPC's give vague mention of where you have to go, so that you can read it with a little more clarity in your journal, or more importantly, just look at the journal map to see where to go...
How the hell does my journal know where to go and I don't? There is NO WAY, using the clues given by the guilds, to know where your next destination is? I know, it seems like a little thing... but it removes you from being fully immersed in the game... from having the joy of figuring out the quest. And its kind of insulting that they don't even wanna give us the chance to find our own way, so they just tell us about the mission and magically update our journal...
That ties into the fact that the English NPC dialogue is horrendous...
Its overly wordy and uninteresting... To call them verbose would be an understatement.
It makes me want to go learn Japanese, play the game in Japanese and figure out if it was a writers fail or just a translation fail.
It could be that they've been doing too many talkies and not enough typies...
Meaning they have done pretty much all voice acting in games since FFX, excluding XI, which had more simple, engrossing dialogue
For the new quest NPC's, most people I've talked to just skip through the dialogue and get to the quest accept screen.
And it transcends quests. the majority of NPC's have very poor English dialogue and it makes it so you don't even care to listen to what they have to say. Give us better dialogue all around...
Most of the offline titles feature some narrative exposition to simplify certain parts of the plot. Others (See FFVII) constantly have the party sitting down to discuss the events thus far, mainly for the sake of the player.
that is not possible in this setting, so the half baked ramblings of the NPC's need to be rehashed.
As it stands, I have no feelings, good or bad, about any of the NPC's in the game... I take that back, I like War wolf for his sword. The dialogue is pretty much all we have and it needs to make us LOVE or HATE the characters, depending on their place in the story.
Even the early main story quests that take place in each city are convoluted and messy....
Could the quests be different? probably.... Better? Maybe...
But a little dialogue goes a long way... And I mean that literally and figuratively
