[SPOILERS] Discussion related to certain characters in Rabanastre...

First, I'd like to note again: spoilers below.

Hello, everyone. Today with some friends I completed the new 24 man Rabanstre (which was excellent btw).

That raid hit so many nostalgia chords with me, as FFT is one of my all time favorites. It was great seeing Ramza, Alma and Argath again. Even Arazlam, too.

However, seeing Arazlam in the story reminded me of something... He was the narrator of FFT; a man that told the story that his ancestor (Orran Durai) who lived some 400 years ago wrote.

That begs the question.. is the Ivalice we got a re-imagination of Ivalice itself by Matsuno? Or is there something else weird going on here?

On a side note, anyone notice Ramza's new surname (Lexentale) is from Tactics Ogre? ^^

Umm it's explained the Ramza and Alma we meet are named after the ones in tactics so that Arazlam won't forget them, so the story still could take place 400 years ago? That's my best guess anyways

To be fair, the references to other games in FFXIV have never been literal in the past. Just because the Crystal Tower appears dues not mean that it's literally the same one from FF3 for example. I don't see why that would change just because we're referring to Final Fantasy Tactics characters and concepts. Still, super duper happy to see those concepts and characters re-imagined for this game!

don't think it's anything weird.

- different world the 400 years doesn't apply.
- different Arazlam, not uncommon for a name to be reused multiple times many generations later.

Well, to have descendants in the Durai line would imply that Orran Durai sired children before being burned at the stake by the church for writing the Durai Papers.


If Orran married Alma and had kids, then those children would also be of the Beoulves. Or Ramza and Agrias might have finally gotten together and one of their daughters married a Durai son. Or Cidolfus could have adopted Ramza and Alma into his family while they were in exile and made them Durai as well (since Orran was Cid's stepson anyway).


Guess we'll find out more as the series progresses.

I don't think we have technically got Ivalice yet. Rabanastre is believed to perhaps have been Lesalia, but it hasn't really been proven yet. I think we will find out as the story unfolds whether the Ivalice of legend was real or not. There are usually some truths in legends. I am interested in knowing the era in which it would have existed. Do you think it would have been before or after the Allagan Empire? I am guessing that it would've only been in the last era or two (5th or 6th) since the legend is still remembered so widely in Garlamald.
