I agree. The issue with this form of housing is that it will never meet the needs and demands of the playerbase. If they added two new wards today, but two hundred new players joined the game, not even a hundred of those players would get a plot. The way this particular housing system is designed, it's meant for servers that have a cap. Meaning that only a certain amount of players are allowed per server. But when you have uncapped servers and people can create as many characters as they want, instanced housing works better.Instances housing would work fine. I imagine they could easily do it like they did apartments. ____ many players can have instanced housing in this area. For those who want the whole ward system they would obviously gravitate to that... those who don't care would likely opt for instanced, especially if you could upgrade housing size within an instance. Bottom line, they need to add restrictions to the system as a whole to help prevent all of this.
I know that a lot of people like the current ward system, but with way that SE has their servers set up, it just doesn't work and a lot of people are getting screwed out of a portion of the game.

Unfortunately, there's really no way to solve this problem that makes Balmung players happy. People should never have crowded onto a single server like that.

More wards for bigger servers ALONG with these listed changes ix a fix as well. The entire system is a mess - it's basically set up for pre 3.0 if even that and the amount of players currently ingame has it completely non viable as a sustainable system. It's really sad that when I stay up waiting for a patch with more than enough money for any house ingame because my launcher glitches out I basically rng miss out on getting my FC a house while others have multiple houses....and now I have no choice but to hope one clears while I see people selling houses for insane prices in pf and elsewhere. This needs addressed in some meaningful way.

If I had never played Everquest 2 which had all sorts of instance housing I would be all for it in Final Fantasy thinking it would be good because everyone could have a house, but having played it I hated the fact of how lonely it was, (it's hard to describe) It was just you in your own house and you step out of the instance and there is nothing. with the way it is in in Final Fantasy, it is much better, sure it is similar where you zone into your house as if you were zoning into a instance but when you step out your in a community and you see people hanging around there own houses doing whatever and makes it feel much better. If people want instance housing so bad they already have it with apartments, just change them so they can be bigger and add on a instance stable area for chocobos/gardens on the side of the apartment buildings, this way everyone has everything.
No instanced housing, I like the neighborhood feel and the sense of community it has. I enjoy seeing my neighbors and their house decorations and the holiday setups people come up with, etc.

Really? My old house ward was a ghost town, even our fc ward is a ghost town with maybe 2-3 fc around us huddling the same bell but its mainly empty, no one talks or does anything..i fail to see the social side of housing.

Nobody wants to take away the wards. They just want them to stop adding them.
You can keep the neighbourhood feel that 99% of the playerbase don't care about (psst, people just want a house, the majority don't care about the "community" thing that really doesn't occur outside of a ward or two) or don't even want it. I know that I don't, I'd love to have a single, instanced, little plot away from the people jumping through my garden or pestering me and the people I actually invited over - as well as not having to see their gaudy and stupid Carby or Paissa or Choco houses... them things ruin the scenery so much.
In the ideal instanced setup, you can still visit houses, just like selecting from a list of the apartments, etc.
Besides, advocacy of an utterly broken system just because it "looks good" is exactly what led to this mess. It's all flash and no function.
Neighborhoods are nice. I'd prefer an instanced house in the district of my choice over a nice neighborhood I'm not being part of, though.
One of the main problems Square Enix keeps running into, is how slowly they increase ward sizes in general. Because let's be honest: by the time they add new wards, house scalpers will already be prepared again. You can only relogg into different characters so many times in a row though(specially with log-in queues being in place), so adding 10 wards per district at ONCE would result in a more effective house distribution than adding 2-3 of them spread over multiple content patches.
Also plots should all be the same size, allowing everyone to place whichever house they want to, if they can afford ist.
