Housing is appealing cause it's a long lasting project you can invest time and gil into and change to your taste. Raids, you grind tomes and gear that means nothing after a couple of months. Yes it's fun, yes raiding can be exciting, but it's something you sooner or later can do - nothing stops you. Housing? You are barred by a flawed system. So yes, I can understand why one can be really crestfallen to the point of taking a break from the game over failing to get a feature that shouldn't be THAT hard and stressful to access in the first place.
