If Housing wasn't important SE wouldn't have spent the past four months bigging it up and using it as a selling point for the expansion.

The salt, the demand high enough to enable the existence of land barons, the speed with which plots get bought. All of these things prove you wrong. You may not care, and possibly the company you surround yourself with. You are in the minority though, regardless of how much your ego may disagree.

I dont agree with the FC exclusive since people will just form FC's to get plots. It's not exactly difficult to do. But they should restrict land purchases on an account to at least make it more work for those that buy up whole wards, if theyre not going to do anything else about the system. It really is a shame a few ruin the experience for the whole.
But I also agree, I don't pay my sub for housing. I have a house, but went years without one. Nothing was lost. All I gained was something fun to decorate and to use when I don't feel like going to the FC house.
"Within each of us, the potential for great power waits to be released."

I don't want to deprive people of having a personal size house they'd like...however, I feel like they need to make some subdivisions FC exclusive only. I feel bad for FCs that spent years trying to earn the money so they can have a home. Whether others care or not, the fact that they did design FC exclusive items for housing would make it frustrating for a game that is showing Growth.
By at least locking one subdivision for housing (and also preventing land grabbing by alts by locking the number of homes purchasable by account) It would balance out.
I think "the neighborhood should look filled up" is a non issue. Buying a personal home only invites at least 3 players at most into that ward, where an FC can have more players hanging out. Yes, there are FCs with only one member these days but account locking isn't a bad thing. Allowing 1 house/fc house is fine.
While there are those that like to tout the exclusivity of owning homes, let's think about this for a moment: it's not difficult content to own a home. So it is kind of silly when it becomes more frustrating than a raid or extreme primal to acquire.

So a strike isn't going to work, the experience your having isn't SEs fault, they have provided a housing service which everyone has equal rights to.
What's causing your bad experience is players being inconsiderate, people complain that land barons sell the plots off for extremely high prices, but that means people are buying them.
Strike against that and you stop land barons, refusing to buy from the mog station isn't going to make SE come up with a fix to general douchebaggery

From what I’ve seen, I’ve seen more people angry that the servers themselves (newly “upgraded” NA servers, nonetheless) were unable to handle the traffic, and the launcher failing to even respond versus not getting a plot. A lot of people have said they wouldn’t be angry if they just hadn’t been fast enough getting to the plot; they’re saying they’re mad because the game itself literally prevented them from even having a chance. I don’t think people were expecting to get a house, but they were at least hoping for a chance to. There is a difference there.
I’m not surprised that they went fast. I’m just upset that these new servers SE supposedly got when they relocated the NA data centers couldn’t handle the traffic. It’s 2017. And the developers continue to cling to this Hunger Games-style housing system, even admidst the outrage over it from a lot of people.
.
In theory, people have equal rights to housing. But, in reality, it all boils down to “who was lucky enough to land a lobby server error or unresponsive launcher at 3:01am PST” and “who was lucky enough to smoothly log in with only 100 people ahead of them in queue”.
I do agree that I don’t think a Mogstation strike is going to make a difference. Because if something comes out that people really want, they’ll probably buy it anyways. Really the only thing that would get SE’s attention would be a mass exodus of subscribers, but even that is unlikely to happen. Sadly, being disappointed with them and their housing system design choices just isn’t enough to prompt any sort of change...

I understand people are upset, and you have a right to be. SE hasn't done anything to fix the housing issue since well... never. They have however tried to give people some of the so-called "content" -if you can even call it that- to people who own Apartments and FC rooms and the like. Gardening has simple planters to use indoors, and apartments come with their own chocobo stables. Airship ventures are locked, but honestly, thats literally just Retainer ventures... using airships.. its not different at all. Diadem and by extension Eureka, you can do from ishgard. So with all of this in mind, if the one thing you came to this game to do was decorate a room, I think you should just un-sub and find a new game, because that is literally all you are striking about. If you are an FC and have not been able to get a house. Make some noise, get heard but make it clear, you are fighting for FC rights to buy a house, for you and your mates to have a place to call home, not for your right to decorate some place. There is a whole game to play, and if its the 1 thing you pay 15 dollars to do and haven't been able to do it... welp.. I don't feel sorry..

I can't fault SE on the data center's ability to handle traffic, because everyday traffic doesn't look like or even come close to the massive influx of connection requests at that very moment when the servers went up. Daily traffic isn't at the same level as the morning scramble for property. You cannot possibly calculate how much additional resource you're going to need for something that is literally 30 minutes of spiked traffic. What players were doing was literally the equivalent to a DDoS, so think about what you're saying when you're expecting SE to be ready for such a massive DDoS. For all you know, someone could very well have timed a DDoS attack at literally the time of server's going up. What better time to grief players than a scheduled time of known high connectivity.

I've already un-subbed, as well as my husband. He was already getting a little burnt out on the game currently though. No I'm not purely un-subbing because of the houses but it was sort of the final straw. The longer I thought about it the sillier it felt to stick around in a game that I have been trying to save up and get a FC house or my little group of people for three years now. It became more absurd to me when I thought about how free to play mmo's can manage to get houses to anyone who wants/afford or does whatever quest for them. Even FF XI managed to have a housing system that everyone could use.
Yes I know XIV has a larger player base then the free to play mmos and probably XI but as it is a sub game I would assume they could afford the servers or what not that they need to at least do better than allowing only 2% of their player population a chance at housing.
