It's absolutely ludicrous that houses sold out so fast

The system in this game is broken. The fact that people who logged in as soon as the servers came back up are unable to get a house is ridiculous. The system needs to be fixed in such a way that anyone who wants a house can get one. Other games have managed to do this, why can't this one? I don't care how it has to be done. Hell, if server infrastructure isn't good enough for it then charge an additional fee for housing similar to extra retainers.

I don't understand how Square can be so incompetent with this.

This is the worst housing system I've seen on an MMO I've ever played.

It's ridiculous. Why am I throwing my money into nothingness for an apartment. It's NOT the same. It's NOT a replacement for housing.

Is the system broken? Sure, and anyone who played back when they initially introduced individual housing were just as surprised as I was, with how badly it was handled.

That said, playing on the most overpopulated server in the game doesn't really help.

It's not surprising at all that the houses sold out. Even if they were to add as many wards (not houses, wards) as there are active players, they would still probably sell out as fast as people could move around and perform the transactions. You're not just competing with other people or FCs that want a house, you're competing with people or businesses trying to make gil, cash, or both, from of an artificially scarce resource.

The system simply doesn't scale. The value for adding more wards don't scale with the unit cost of doing so, which is why the dev team is reluctant to travel down that path. They know the system is fundamentally broken, but fixing it would require significant design time, implementation time, and real-world resources. We can only keep showing that it's something important to the players, and hope that they'll eventually be able to fit it into their development budget.

In all honesty I would've said limit the number of houses you can own to one per server. There's no need for you to have individual houses on alts on the same server other than to sell them.

What else did SE expect when they released a limited number of wards and houses to a gigantic population of players? Did they really expect people to wait for the prices to go down first? Of course not! People have had plenty of time and resources to make enough gil (or buy it if they dare) to buy multiple houses, so of course they'll buy as many houses they possibly can on as many alts as they can so they can sell them at a massive profit.

Even if it wasn't people looking to make a profit there is certainly nowhere near enough houses to go around all the players in the game who want their own private place.

So hats off to those who wanted a new home who got one, and fingers up to those who were just looking to exploit gil out of potential buyers.
