No instance housing. I like being able to see my neighbors and thier houses, it creates a community.

A community that 80% (more, actually) of the active player base won't be a part of. Some "community."
Most housing wards on my server (which, for the record all housing was gone--Shirogane AND other wards--in less than 20 minutes, and it is not even considered a "Congested World") are completely dead. A lot of housing wards on Balmung, the most populated server, are completely dead; ghost towns.
So tell me where I can garden in my apartment? Where can I put my outdoor furnishing? Where can an FC put their company workshop? You get a single room with 100-item limit--that is not "housing." That is a glorified FC room (and FC rooms are actually cheaper, plus you get all the benefits of the house itself, including gardening). But wait. Less than 20% of the active playerbase will have a house, and the majority of the time it will be FC versus Personal.
Apartments are not a solution, so stop saying that they are.
Edit because of arbitrary daily post limit:
I wasn't referring to the housing system specifically here; but that was probably poor wording on my part. I was referring to how the developers want this game to be on-par with WoW but they can't even implement things that F2P games have (Glamour Logs, Housing, etc.); it took them this long to implement a way for Chocobo timers to be visible on your HUD, to have a chocobo and a minion out at the same time--or to put commas in the experience bar.... I'm sorry, I just find that unacceptable in 2017. I'm sorry.

Well if you are going to be that way, then why are raid communities in the game?A community that 80% (more, actually) of the active player base won't be a part of. Some "community."

80% of the playerbase doesn't do raids. Should SE stop developing raids?
Instanced apartments should be instanced houses with yards, gardening, outdoor furnishings, chocobo stables, larger item limits.
Dyes shouldn't be NPC or AH based, they should be a palette book you can upgrade via achievement or completing something. Glamours should be book without the requires specific X to glamour specific Y. Maybe require global generic prism.
It sounds like I don't understand the anger, but I sort of do. I couldn't get a SB house. SE will end up changing housing, I am just wondering if anything feature wise would have to be gutted in order to achieve everyone getting a house. Why can't a better instanced solution exist beside the current system is my question.

Nothing builds a community like being a total ghost town. When the only jump of activity is a random squad of people running in to attack the FC target dummy I think SE knows where they can shove non instanced housing.
Is it truly worth it to be able to see someone's house and say "Damn thats an ugly ass house" when the ability to do so creates this dumpster fire that we call a housing system?
Oh hey nothing was here

Nothing says "community" like the the wedge between the "haves" and "have nots" of the housing feature. The FFXIV community is fairly nice overall, until you look at housing. Housing, since there's not enough to go around, creates a divide.
I'd be happy to just have an apartment, but I can't garden except in pots, I can't have a yard, and it's not big enough. Sorry, but an apartment is not good enough. A true instanced house would be fine for me, since I don't care about the "community" aspect of it all anyway. Some people don't care about that, so it would be a great option for some folks.
I was lucky this morning, and got a better plot in the Beds than the one I let demo about six weeks ago because I thought I'd just quit playing for a while. I know a lot of others weren't that lucky, and I still think the housing system--at least the acquisition system--sucks, and SE needs to fix it.
