Her truly seeing what she did and suffering through that is quite the good punishment. One should not just get free pass from their horrible past doings by just helping once.

In the end I really hope that her change and her redemption will still take time.

I also find the reaction of the people after she saved them realistic. Forgiving someone even for much smaller things is already hard but we are talking about way harsher stuff here. It was nice to see that they still feel horrible about her but at least could thank her. Thats imo a much more realistic human reaction than just giving up on hate so fast. Such wounds may never heal for everyone and I really hope that Lyse does not believe that people will just give that up fast just because she could do that. I mean people like that probably do exist in the real world but the majority of us would probably need quite some time to get over something like that.

I think there's a big difference with her and a certain other female NPC who worked under Zenos. Afterwards she seemed to show regret, or even remorse for her actions (mainly the tipping point was killing her own men), after being backed into the corner.

To add to that, in these later events, now with the Echo she actively experienced the acts she and the skulls did to people. She wouldn't kill herself, as Arenvald noted she had plenty of opportunity to, but wanted to be executed (i.e. punished) for it.

This is a very different attitude than just to blame everyone else for everything that went wrong, due to horrible events in the past.
