The mind from tides does help, but didn't we all already know that wands were more for healing and crooks were more for damage dealing? That's what I gathered anyway...

Were you under the influence of party buffs or food btw?

Edit: Also if you macro'd the gear, did any of your gear change between tests? Even missing a ring could cause a discrepancy.

I had always heard the rumor that 2 handed cured for more then one handed. I had also heard the rumor that wand of tides heals for more because cure is a 'water' based spell. (Which I never believed)

Testing was done naked with no equipment on at all. No food, no party, nothing. It wouldn't really be a cure test if I equipped gear/food/party now would it? ;p

No, I suppose not. I can't fully understand why the ice wand was curing for even slightly more than the water one though. I don't know what happened to the water element in the game either...

But what I do know is as a culinarian, each food effects an attribute and element. For instance, crowned cakes effect Intelligence and Ice Element (supposedly.) Now, we are aware that intelligence effects attack magic potency, however, increased elemental stats = what? Just elemental resistance? Then why did it matter back in the day to have both intelligence and ice element at specifics numbers to receive bonuses from food? (Tasty, Delicious, Divine, etc.)

Crowned cakes improve attack magic potency, but they also raise mp even though no data anywhere says crowned cakes improve piety, mp, or anything. The real question is, how does increasing your elemental attributes actually effect your character?

I understand what your saying, and I even agree with you, but more testing will need to be done under stricter guidelines. I am currently in the process of acquiring healing magic potency materia to test against mind. I will also note the elemental resistances as well as the day it is in game.

Again I'd chalk up the differences to some of the randomness of the game. I don't use a parser, all of the results are entered into a spreadsheet, and then I do the math the old fashion way.

I'm one of those that like to know how and why things work they way they do, so I can better myself and my character in the game. Also the test was a small batch of cures, I will expand the test to an even bigger sample to help rule out fluctuations.

If you have any suggestions for the tests or even any request of something you might like tested I'm all ears (well eyes) so please let me know.

The staff role vs wand role thing is because of what materia they can use. Staff can get Elemental Potencies, Magic Crit and Attack Magic Potency, whereas wand can get Healing Potency and Enmity down. That isn't entirely the case, though. I think more wands come with some magic attack and of course higher tier ones have some nice Elemental potency. A Jade Crook with enough MND would be great for healing with the high crit rate, too.
