    Debunking some CNJ Myths!

So, I know most of us have heard the rumors, that a Wand of Tides helps increase the amount of HP from a cure. We have also heard that 2-Handed weapon cured more then a 1-Handed weapon.

Decided to do some tests on this. Mind you this was a limited test, run multiple times to verify the numbers. I'm not going to post the spread sheet data, but if enough people are interested I can upload it to google docs for you guys to look for yourselves.

    Here are the results.

Jade Crook vs Wand of Tides (Single vs Double handed Test)
    Jade Crook: 36 non-crit cures total 18439 HP healed = Average 512.19
Wand of Tides: 36 non-crit cures total 18682 HP healed = Average 518.94

Ah but you say 36 is such a small testing number and it does look like wand beats out crook! Next set of data below

Jade Crook vs Wand of Tides vs Wand of Frosts (Single vs Double & Wand Tides vs Wand Frost test)

Jade Crook: 99 Cures including crits total 52157 = Average 526.83
Wand of Tides: 99 Cures including crits total 51831 = Average 523.54
Wand of Frost: 99 Cures including crits total 52116 = Average of 526.42

    Jade Crook: 92 Cures non-crits total 47316 = Average 514.30
    Wand of Tides: 92 Cures non-crits total 47293 = Average 514.05
    Wand of Frost: 92 Cures non-crits total 47293 = Average of 515.09

So I think it might be safe to say that Wand of Tides doesn't increase amount cured over other weapons. 2-handed weapons don't heal for more then 1-handed weapons.

The mind from tides does help, but didn't we all already know that wands were more for healing and crooks were more for damage dealing? That's what I gathered anyway...

Were you under the influence of party buffs or food btw?

Edit: Also if you macro'd the gear, did any of your gear change between tests? Even missing a ring could cause a discrepancy.

I had always heard the rumor that 2 handed cured for more then one handed. I had also heard the rumor that wand of tides heals for more because cure is a 'water' based spell. (Which I never believed)

Testing was done naked with no equipment on at all. No food, no party, nothing. It wouldn't really be a cure test if I equipped gear/food/party now would it? ;p

No, I suppose not. I can't fully understand why the ice wand was curing for even slightly more than the water one though. I don't know what happened to the water element in the game either...

But what I do know is as a culinarian, each food effects an attribute and element. For instance, crowned cakes effect Intelligence and Ice Element (supposedly.) Now, we are aware that intelligence effects attack magic potency, however, increased elemental stats = what? Just elemental resistance? Then why did it matter back in the day to have both intelligence and ice element at specifics numbers to receive bonuses from food? (Tasty, Delicious, Divine, etc.)

Crowned cakes improve attack magic potency, but they also raise mp even though no data anywhere says crowned cakes improve piety, mp, or anything. The real question is, how does increasing your elemental attributes actually effect your character?

I understand what your saying, and I even agree with you, but more testing will need to be done under stricter guidelines. I am currently in the process of acquiring healing magic potency materia to test against mind. I will also note the elemental resistances as well as the day it is in game.

Again I'd chalk up the differences to some of the randomness of the game. I don't use a parser, all of the results are entered into a spreadsheet, and then I do the math the old fashion way.

I'm one of those that like to know how and why things work they way they do, so I can better myself and my character in the game. Also the test was a small batch of cures, I will expand the test to an even bigger sample to help rule out fluctuations.

If you have any suggestions for the tests or even any request of something you might like tested I'm all ears (well eyes) so please let me know.
